Borla frontpipe / overpipe install help!

anyone has one of these installed and would like to give tips?
I was ecstatic to be able to remove the stock overpipe without cursing or breaking anything. But I now have a problem of installing the Borla pipe..no matter how I tried, going through from the front or going through from the back, I can't get through that POS tiny gap...
Do I need to drop my stock header?

I'm sure you're gonna have to loosen the engine mounts and jack the motor up just a little to give you some room to slide it in :D

I had to do the same when I had the nameless op/fp combo

you should be able to slide it in thru the front. I had zero issues installing a JDL by installing thru the front.

Option two is to loosen the passenger side motor mount and to find a place to lift the engine up from a bit.

Tho, being Borla I wouldnt even bother as I believe its nearly the same size as the oem overpipe. It's not worth the hassle.

It all depends on the bends of the over pipe. A well designed one will have just enough bend to clear once install to limit the restriction. To install my ACE over pipe I had to undo the 2 motor mount bolts and lift the motor slightly. Very easy to do.

It goes through the front. You just have to angle it right. If you need to lift the motor (not sure if needed since I had my header off when I did mine) leave the nuts on so you don't pull the motor all the way out and have issues lineing it back up.

Good thought. When I lifted mine I almost made this mistake lol.

awe man.. would this be faster and easier than removing header route?

I've spent about 30 min under the car maneuvering from the front but the flange seems too big to go through.. plus the overpipe from borla is longer than the stock overpipe :( the reason i want to use this is I'm keeping stock catback but want to try deleting the 2nd cat and the resonator in the front pipe..the stock pipe measured smaller than 2.25" to me

so unbolt the passenger side mount only and good?

Yup. Had a buddy learn the hard way. Took us forever to get it back in straight

The diameter might be less on the stock overripe, but the overripe isn't holding anything back.
Cats are your resistance and back pressure. Save a headache and sell the new overripe :p

It would be easier in my opinion, I can help I'm in 818 myself

jasonojordan 02-04-2017 01:33 PM

I unbolted both sides and just lifted the whole motor.

the overpipe, from what ive found, is one of the lease restrictive parts of the exhaust. next to the axleback. the header and front pipe are far more restrictive. the overpipe has temps high enough that velocity is far higher that needed. i'm considering replacing my over pipe purely because i need to pull it when i gut my cat.

the borla overpipe is a combo overpipe + front pipe.. it deletes the 2nd cat and the resonator. it's actually no headache at all once I jacked up the engine :D

thanks so much for the offer man! i jacked up the engine less than an inch, and was able to slip it through!

the front pipe is rounded in already, do i still need to reuse the stock donut gasket? seeing not many has this OP/Fp, i guess, I'll have to test and see

Four_wheel_drifts 09-09-2019 12:22 AM

I’m reviving this old thread. Can you post sound clips of the Borla overpipe and front pile? Looking to buy one locally to make the front pipe a straight through, but am worried it might be raspy.
