Matching the new WRB...possible!
 

Hey guys, so unfortunately I suffer from automobile OCD, previous owner of my BRZ had a front plate installed and had the dealers drill into the bumper. Well I went ahead and ordered new OEM front and rear bumpers from Subaru since I had some imperfection in the rear as well.

From what I read on the forums, it seems like the new WRB is a pain to match since it's a 3 stage. Well a local shop did a great job for me, they had my car for about an hour to match the color then I came back and dropped off the new bumpers. I'd say my new bumpers match even better than the OEM ones. :happyanim:

Close up of the front bumper in sunlight. Don't mind the slight orange peel, they said for me to mount it first then bring the car in to get the bumpers sanded and polished.

Now you have a gap from the bumper to the fender.

The OP admits that he has a bad case of auto OCD ...... and that observation of yours just may push him over the edge ...... ;)

No, OP used a much overused and usually wrong term to describe his need to have things perfect.
The vast majority of people that say "I have OCD" about their car are more likely really OCPD which is NOT the same thing even if some similar symptoms may overlap. Many could also be someplace on the lower levels of the autism spectrum.


Wanting a perfect paint job is not even close to OCD. Painting your car over and over and over even when it is already perfect would be.


I think I will become OCPD in correcting people that say they have OCD.

But then it won't match the slight orange peel of the OEM paint. Next thing you know, you'll want the rest of the car paint corrected to match the bumpers.

Got that covered, that was one of the first thing I asked the shop if they could do. To match the "texture" of the OE paint during sanding/polishing and sure enough they did. They said it took them a couple extra hours to get it just right. Kind of hard to see but this is where the front bumper meets the hood, they got the "orange peel" texture spot on. In fact it matches better than OEM, if you go out and look at your OEM bumpers, the texture doesn't match from the factory and that's another thing that bothered me. I've looked at half a dozen WRB BRZ's and the factory bumpers have a "smoother" texture to them. Now I can say my bumpers match color and texture wise better.
