Anyone running UEL Headers with Muffler delete?
I've got Tomei UEL Headers atm and I'm thinking of just cutting my muffler off from my stock. Anybody have this setup?
How's the drone and noise? I was with the Invidia N1 and Tomei UEL and the noise didn't bother me too much. Think the muffler delete will be louder? Or any recommendations for a loud set but has less drone than the n1? (Not the Q300 though) |
I had a UEL and a Muffler delete, it drones like a mf! cruising on the highway doesnt matter what rpm you're at, it will drones. only time it doesnt drone on the highway is when you let off the throttle.
If you're a person who doesn't like drony exhaust, i would advise against it. But it does sound really good for the price. best bang for the buck |
I had a JDL uel catless header with a nameless muffler delete and I loved the

My guess to get rid of for drone, is to add dual resonator front pipe
|
To give you an idea: A muffler delete with un-catted headers will almost nearly be the loudest you can get with this car (short of running straight pipes).
I really really don't think you want to do that for daily driving purposes. The last few folks who have done this have posted with something to the effect of 'Help, I'm embarrassed to drive my car it is so loud'. Consider the above before you simply chop it off. I would at least modify it in a way that you can easily reattach if desired. |
Just take the muffler off and drive around like that for a few days, see what you think. As said its going to be pretty loud. If you like it then get a Burk axle back muffler delete and call it a day. If you dont then do some more research.
The N1 style mufflers are pretty much the loudest you will get in that style. Going louder would be switching to a single outlet like the Buddy Club or Tomei T60R. To cut down on drone without sacrificing to much volume you need to have resonators in the exhaust. The HKS or Fujitsubo dual resonator frontpipe will help with this but, I'm not sure how much they will help. The bad thing is, its difficult to have loud without drone unless you go to the really expensive exhaust system. |
UEL+ muffler delete is loud but daily driveable IMO. I have it on 3 of my cars. Cold start is quite loud but driving around its not terrible.
Now, UEL+ muffler delete+ ANY front pipe from my experience is insane. I even ran a front pipe with a large muffler in it (no cat) and it was raspy, loud, and insane. As long as you leave the stock front pipe in place though, its not that crazy. |
Thanks for the replies guys.
The loudness was definitely perfect for me with the N1+UEL. It was only the drone and that was bearable too. It was more my girlfriend who kept complaining. :( Any recommendations for an exhaust+UEL setup that could be around the same as the N1+UEL but slightly less drone? |

I'd actually be interested to see if someone could daily drive open headers. I wonder how insanely loud that would be, especially at WOT. I'm not volunteering to give it a try... but someone should take a video

I don't think it drones that bad. With the stock header and a muffler delete there was an annoying drone around 55, but now it's just loud. All my neighbors love my car though. Just make sure you keep the revs at a respectable level in the neighborhood. Additionally it passes sound at my fairly restrictive track (94dB at 50 feet). They did not give me a number, but it didn't sound like I was close to the limit. |
