Those with supercharger have issues with emissions
So am will soon be supercharged and one of my concerns is I live in IL and there are emission testing here. I was told if go FI I will most likely fail. My car is 2015 and kind of worried now. So don't know if should wait until after emissions and then put supercharger on or take my chance
I was going to go HKS or JRSC. Anyone have any info for me? |
You will not fail in cook county. Ecutek or openflash? Doesn't matter, either one will allow you to pass with flying carpets

You could keep your cats when adding a supercharger, wont even fail visual inspection XD

JRSC. @CSG Mike did a supercharger comparison, pretty sure it's stickied around here somewhere.
Edit: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55705 As far as emissions go, most if not all supercharger kits can be installed keeping the factory exhaust as well. Edit2: helpful read http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...=113899&page=2 |
I live out in the NW suburbs of cook county, and I run Jackson with a Delicious tune.
This past November I had to take my car to emissions and I passed. I will also note I run no cats on my car. |

Does Aladdin come with the flying carpets? |
In chicago since there is no visual, it's all about the if the systems are "ready". I remember some of the times people get CELs for using a header without a cat. I guess that's the thing of the past and the tuner can turn those off but still have the catalyst system ready. I have a kraftwerks kit with a moto-east tune full exhaust with one cat in the front pipe after the O2 sensors which doesn't really matter... haven't needed to go through emissions yet, but I know I will pass since I only have one "system" "not ready" and that's my evap system. But those never ready up stock anyways. Mine isn't ready since I'm running a flexfuel repinned harness that comes with moto-east's flex fuel kit.
So as long as you have only ONE system "not ready" you'll be fine and you'll pass. You can easily check this btw with the Torque app on Android with a bluetooth OBD. But I think you'll be fine with no issues. EDIT: also, if you car is 2015.. I think the law is you won't have to go through emissions for 4 or 5 years? I bought my car in 2014 and I still haven't needed to go through emissions. |
I have a friend who own's a CA emission check shop. My car has the Edelbrock supercharger, header, custom exhaust, NO CATS, and custom tune by Shawn Church, running e-85. Just for grins he plugged his instrument into my ECU and then used his probe up the tail pipe. Outside of the visual my car passed CA. emissions perfectly. I own this mostly to my tune.

All Illinois does is plug in an OBDII scanner and check for codes. As long as you don't have any and your monitored systems are online you're good. In some of my other vehicles I had the rear 02 Sensor tuned out and they all passed perfectly, not sure if you can get away with that on the twins though.
