Another review of the 86
I thought I'd share this video review. This guys is tells it as it is with all his reviews.
https://youtu.be/9-Y9v3KFVLM |
No. Like all reviews he tells it as he sees it. That does not make it "as it is" unless you happen to agree with his point of view. I agree with some of what he says but I prejudged him just by the smug way he talks and looks and now can't get past that. The brain is funny that way.
The Kia Soul "will mop the floor with it"? 2017 Kia Soul Turbo: 0-60 mph 7.5 | Quarter mile 15.7 2017 86: 0-60 mph 6.2 | Quarter mile 14.8 The dude is the poster child for the "needs more power or is useless" camp. |
Isn't this the same guy that supercharged his car, then dumped it because he couldn't take it anymore due to the many Intricacies of the vehicle?
|
I don't agree on somethings that he says and he's arrogant at times but that's what like about this guy. When I mentioned he tells it as it is, what I meant was he gives more information about the negatives of the car so that the consumer is better informed before buying. He differs from other critics in my opinion because he's more open and tells the negative aspect of the car rather than being light footed so they don't get black listed from journalist events.
|
A lot of his criticisms are subjective, but his beefs with the underbody rusting out like crazy, or the stuff they don't tell you about modding the car for power (it isn't as easy as you think, and there's a lot more to it than just slapping on the supercharger) were good comments.
But the way he delivers the message is for entertainment. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk |

Of fucking course you can't just put a supercharger on and have it work. there's a ton of things you need to consider and be prepared for before boost and from what I see, he wasn't prepared to deal with little issues. |

I do not find any of it "entertainment" I just want to punch him in the mouth every time he opens it. Not for what he says but just because he rubs me the wrong way. I even pulled an Ashi and sat here yelling at him on my monitor he pisses me off so much. Quote:

He sounds whinny and I can't listen to his reviews anymore...
ETA: Any dark car would look like shit covered in salt lol |
I kept a running commentary because I knew 2 seconds in this was going to be a total joke and that guy is everything wrong with these types of videos. I was right.
Holy crap this is one of those losers who thinks production quality is more important than content. Seriously douche poseur in every possible way. 5 minutes in and he is still whining like a loser. Holy crap does he know how to drive? I want to set doucheboy on fire. Only way to make him entertaining. bla bla bla, production quality of video, whine cry bitch moan. Did he actually write a script or is this totally bullshitted? Poster child for everything wrong with youtube videos. seriously it would take 5 minutes on google to know the auto didn't meet noise levels with the changes. Not that hard to figure out. I don't need 5 camera angles to see you can't drive. whining about the noise. Seriously? he really can't drive. I'm stunned he complimented the auto trans. He's right but it is shocking. "I've already given the conclusion 600 times." What an asshole. Holy crap, what a total loser. "Toyota doesn't build a 4 cylinder engine." What? What the hell are you smoking? Again, 5 minutes of research and this douche nozzle would know exactly why Toyota wanted to use a boxer 4. Did this loser do any research at all? Oh yea let's compare a $25k car to cars twice as expensive. Seriously what a fool. Even the S2k would be $41k in today's market. Yup, a power loser snob. Totally misses the point, even as he says it is amazing to drive. I feel really awful that I might have given this person money by watching the video. I'd so rather watch Doug DeMuro, Everyday Driver, or people who have actual functioning brains that aren't trying to be poseurs as hard as possible like this loser is. I literally cannot say enough negative things about this person. He is everything that is wrong with our society. |
I have to say though, when I had to change out my exhaust, I was very surprised with how much surface rust was on it. It could be that the piping for the axle back portion is untreated. Of course, the Ontario winter salt probably didn't help. My mechanic was just as surprised when I brought it to him to mount my winter tires the first winter.
Any part of the underbody which was painted, was completely fine though. That being said, maybe it's just how all cars are now. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk |
I loaned him the tool to do the DI injector seals, he seemed fine in person.
I do not agree with his views on the supercharger install, way too dramatic for my tastes. Haven't seen the video in a while, but I remember going "how the hell are you guys having these problems....." |

lol, I forgot how much people hate @Dezoris.
And that he left before @Tcoat started spending a few hours a day posting here. I like his opinions, his priorities are just different than the people who this car was built for. And when a car is as good as this, the only thing to talk about are the little things and the obvious deficiencies. |
It was entertaining to watch while I ate breakfast. I don't agree with most of his thoughts. ;)
|
Yep, I'll be sticking with TJ Hunt and Calvin as the authorities on 86

After watching the video It's a fair review from a perspective of someone who test drives cars. I happen to not agree with a lot of his sentiments such as the rust issue which would happen with pretty much every car on the market unless the bolts are capped or covered from the elements. Also I believe in research and I get things wrong even with research but it seems he only knows the history of this car he was able to find on Wikipedia. For example the engine. Toyota has the ability to design an engine for this car but they don't have a boxer type engine, so they went or joined forces with Subaru to complete Tada's vision. The mechanic is another know it all mechanic that has owned only American Muscle cars. His answer for this car is put in an inline four and sacrifice handling. UGGHH total OPPOSITE of this cars goal.I think he has been breathing in too much brake cleaner. I can't imagine a higher mounted block of metal that would oversteer at every corner. As far as the auto, I must say he's dead on. I drove the auto for a good 45 min, not a lot of time but enough to understand how good it is. I prefer the MT as many on here do. Also after owning the car I was dead against the tires but they are superb and purposely adapted for the car by design though I will be getting just slightly stickier tires since I'm faster than the tires. I say keep the stock tires and enjoy them but replace with slightly stickier when they are worn. He was also correct about what you get for this price point. You do get enough to feed your appetite with this car stock. Fast is nice but everyday fun is more satisfying. I have to watch again though. One thing I don't get is when he turns off the nanies on salt covered roads and complains it tail happy. Ugghh. I may just do my own review. |

Here you go, I even gave the 86 a massive advantage here with brake tq start. Kia Soul Standing start. Kia is still about 5MPH faster. Both doing standing start Kia is 10MPH faster which is how normal people on the street launch. Anything else troll? I was in the cars back to back, why would I lie about it just to fulfill some agenda to make the 86 look slow, right. Anything else message me or email me. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvkK8CQnzcM&"]86 vs Kia Soul[/ame] Oh how I love the forum ragers, I spent well over two years contributing here sharing data no one would share including many of the half ass tuners. Putting to bed plenty of non sense with DI phobia, oil pressure knowledge and so much more. But there is always a few people like you who come out of the woodwork, those who passionately hate someone and loathe them so much that instead of ignoring you watch and post about it. Your time and energy wasted on this is more than troubling. Its a confirmation that trolling is alive and well. Where are your videos, contributions good or bad? There are certain people who tie their self worth to their material possesions, car people are in fact some of the craziest types. Clearly you have been triggered beyond belief and instead of being a typical internet **** swinger if you want to talk about it you can contact me anytime offline, my contact info is on the website or you can IM me. Lastly here is the hub/wheel bearing at 15k miles that would not come out, totally laughable. In fairness our area uses various degrees of salt solution but still, come on. |

Excellent post. The motor comment is because it is true the ND Miata and S2000 did not need a low CG boxer motor to be dynamic and balanced. The second point is Toyota no longer has a high performance naturally aspirated 4 popper in their arsenal, and they are years behind in development, which is why you see them joining forces with Mazda with their engine development. Its not that they can't but they stopped and are behind. Other areas with the video like driving with no stabilty control, its a pre requssite to see how a vehicle behaves without interference. That said even with it off it still kicks on without pedal dance stupidity. Its a tail happy car, no arguing it. Sometimes you just want stick right? |

Sure the unpainted treated steel rusted. Wow what a surprise. Would exactly the same on any other car. This does not make it a "rust bucket". LOL where are my contributions? So you made some obnoxious videos and stated your opinion as fact. Your opinion is valid but anybody else's is trolling? Really? I have not been "triggered" to anything. Your video was posted. I expressed my dislike of it. End of story. As far as "wasted time and energy on this" I spent about 30 seconds on it and moved on. You should do the same. Goodbye. |

I was expecting it to be horrible based on the replies in here... But it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
The only things that really stood out were the somewhat ridiculous comparisons (the Kia and the Porsche comparison) and the slight over dramatizations of the "issues". Not too sure what the mechanic was supposed to add to the video... Everything else was just delivered in a way to provoke a response it seems (dramatic). Overall, his comments/opinions were on point for the most part. |
IMHO the best review for the Twins (actually several reviews and camparos) is from everyday driver. If you want to hear 2 guys talk about the pros and cons of the 86 watch their videos.
They love the car but realize something is missing. They recently did a comparison of a tuned NA vs Supercharged FRS and it was the most recent of a series of 86 reviews they've dome and they still can't decide if they love the 86 or not. They want to but... |
@Dezoris
[QUOTE= ...I think its hilarious that many of the owners of enthusiast cars cant find the beauty in the faults of them. Its part of the love of car ownership to embrace the good and bad. Some of my favorite cars have been flawed including the 86. And the best part is I can say the 86 is one of the best choices for those who want a drivers car, but so many people only hear one thing, an attack on their own self worth and not the car... [/QUOTE] This is true at the end of the day it is a piece of machinery, but when you enjoy something so much, or worked so hard to get, or maintain some forget that and it becomes a personal attack. Most of us have fallen into that mode at one time or another. |

They have great reviews and I follow them in addition to Savagegeese (@Dezoris). They have different styles and both have a place when discussing cars especially this platform. |

Hilarious I missed that one. |
I think this video, along with others that were produced by Savagegeese, is very straight forward and well informed. He is always very good at portraying his opinions and experiences directly in the video, which is the thing I like about his videos.
Every car has it own good(s) and bad(s), strengths and weaknesses. We, as a consumer, are the one who choose to accept these ups and downs. I really like to watch his reviews. As always, his videos have a kind of depressed or pessimistic mood/tone because of the way he presented his wording and the background musics are always sad. That is just his style. But sometimes, telling the negative side of a car just hurts other owners' feeling. And, for most part, people just can't handle that kind of feeling. |
I like my car. Im in no need of journalistic validation. Dezoris imo does an amazing job albeit with the sarcasm that comes from basically too much time around cars. Im the same way when it comes to bikes. For me the frs is a useable sports car with a reasonable price tag. Ill live with it. Lol

You dont have to do a scientific metered testing. You get in and out of two cars back to back, do a simple stopwatch test and no matter how you spin it the Soul Turbo is faster, as stated. With nearly identical weight and more HP and TQ its faster. But don't take my word, live in your bubble, arm chair internet troll. Yes troll, you sit back comment and do nothing to provide any type of content, usable or otherwise, you repond with non answers like the rust issues. Have you worked on cars, do you see them underneath everyday? Our frs should not have had wheel bearings and hubs seized together after 15k miles, as stated the uderbody for mileage was exceptionally bad compared to other cars. I show pictures, explain and you deny like a child. And finally you are a triggered troll, no normal person would post this: Quote:

Hahaha holy shit, you guys are savages.
I for one, very much enjoy his reviews. His Mazda CX-9 review was very informative. I think his ability to get so many of you guys riled up about it is hilarious as well. If you guys remember OG FRS video, that thing got the keyboard warriors out in their full Tameshi Gosoku. |
