Dealers receiving FRS with Five Axis Kits

So a co-worker interested in an FRS just talked to a dealer today with some interesting news. As it turns out some dealers are getting port installed Five Axis Design kits. For a high priced $31,000. I thought my BRZ Limited was stretching it a bit. $31,000 for an FRS is ridiculous, unless you just happen to be someone who wanted one of these kits.

wouldnt it be cheaper if we waited and ordered the kit, took it to the body shop and had it installed? insted of paying $31000?

My dealer is bringing one of those cars to the show in Fremont CA this weekend. It was bound to happen. It's to the buyer, and there was a LOT of praise for that kit when it got announced, so management thinks this is a good idea as a result of said praise. 31k sound extreme though. Does it include the wheels AND the springs then? That would make more sense than just the body panels.

Definitely comes with wheels, but didn't ask or say anything about springs.

I would rather have the nur aero kit instead of the five axis kit. Only good thing about the five axis kit is the spoiler.

Sigh-on-Rice 07-12-2012 09:14 PM

Wow. $6k more for this is a lot. I wonder what's included in the kit.

To make it worthwhile, it would have to include a bag containing $3,000.

imravenit 07-12-2012 09:41 PM

Comes with a full kit trd springs and wheels.. I had a chance to look at one over at pasadena, ca but ya $31,000+...

Calidrifter 07-12-2012 09:44 PM

Kit comes with aero parts, wing, springs and wheels.

It looks like they are trying to package deal it for the people that want to roll everything into one monthly payment.

Lonewolf 07-12-2012 09:46 PM

It will sell because the mods (wheels, drop, bodykit) can be financed along with the car itself...

Calidrifter 07-12-2012 09:48 PM

Exactly, if you want something else just buy the car without any options.

I hope no one is dumb enough to buy one of these vehicles with port installed wheels. For half what you'll be charged for those wheels/tires, you can purchase online the same wheel/tire package for half the price AND have a complete set of original wheels/tires as a backup.

Half the price, twice the amount of wheels and tires. It's a no-brainer.

wallace03 07-12-2012 11:57 PM

id pay 31k if it was the fr-s concept :D

Actually no. It's very hard to find any of the Five Axis wheels they are selling for less than $1350 as a set. The wheels are great for the price. Also, if you tell them to let you keep the stock wheels then you can sell those for at least $500 and it would be perfect. Also you are getting free tires as well.

I'm getting the Five Axis edition for $26,000 + 5,000.

If you were to do this on your own, separately it would cost:
Kit is $1400
Wheels are $1350
Springs are ~$300
Tires are ~$800
Paint is $800
Shipping??? = $300-500??
Installation is probably about $1000 for body kit and wheels and springs

That's ~$6000 if you buy everything and have someone else install it and paint it.

It's $5000 to have all of this done prior to buying your car, saving you over ~$1000.

ALSO, it can be incorporated into financing.

It's a good deal. It's not a steal but you do save some money and time and you can finance it with the car.

That's not a bad breakdown actually. Usually aftermarket wheels are more than that at my local stealerships. I've also specifically asked on numerous occasions over the many years about keeping original wheels/tires...not once has the answer been yes.

And If all this is being done at the port, it seems more likely to me that the original wheels won't make it to the dealership in the first place. Do you have first hand knowledge to say otherwise or just guessing?

The retail price of the 5 Axis kit w/spoiler, painted, with wheels(no tires) and springs is only $2540, the wheels are cheaper than you thought too. I don't think you would need it shipped if bought through the dealership either, and most likely could work in a discount on the installation as well as the kit itself since it isn't standard. I bet you could get it all done for $4k-5k.

I'm having mine done at the dealership so I will be requesting the stock wheels and springs. Would be a bummer if I couldn't get them.
