Subaru BRZ OEM Front Leather Seat Damage
 

My front car leather seat has a big scratch in it along the seem. I have no idea how this happened. My guess maybe i touch it when i enter the vehicle and perhaps constant scuffing has made this occur.

My BRZ is out of warranty so i would have to repair this myself. I went to an upholstery shop and they said it would cost about $400 to repair it. I thought that was a bit much but they said it would take 4-5 hours of repairing the seam, restitching the front seat, they said they couldn't just sew it back to normal. They said it's maybe worth it to just replace it instead.

Has anyone had this issue as well? Is it worth repairing it? (maybe it will occur again), and if so is it best to repair it or replace it? If I have to replace it. What Subaru OEM part numbers would I have to get to replace it? According to http://www.oepartsmart.com/auto-part...omponents-scat

Seat back cover right for $467 (#1 in diagram). Is that the only part i need to get? There are a lot of components to the front seat. see image below. There is also seat back pad leather (#2 in diagram), right for $171. Would i have to buy both of these for $638 total? That's so expensive.

You had something in your pocket (back pocket perhaps) that ripped the leather as you were getting in and out. I learned to remove everything out of my pockets, like you, the hard way, by doing the same to my BMW. Anyhow, looks like that's the only part you'll need. Talk to someone at www.subarupartsdepot.com and they'll let you know if that's the case.

Could just consider a used seat. There are a ton floating around. Not sure on what the prices are on used seats though.

You should just need the cover.

I don't think that is real leather

I have the same problem but it's not caused by my clothing. It's torn at many places at the stitching. The proof is that the botton where it'simpossible to reach by you ass is torn too. I have a extended warranty and they refused to change it. I'm furious.

As said, find a used seat.
Considered a wear item. Went through this with an 03 Mini, the dealer had replaced many before me under warrantee but when I got in line they stopped and told me no more would be done.

Usually caused by rolling body in and out of the seats. If you wear jeans, the metal rivets can also scratch and pull on the leather.

I scratched the edge seam of my seat with jean rivets and after I saw it and minor wear impressions forming on the seat, I started pulling myself out of the seat using the steering wheel and bracing my other arm on the door sill to lift myself out. This cut back wear dramatically!! I also find it easier to do over time. Obviously it won't help you with your seat in its current state but last time i checked, its just the leather top cover you'll need (unless you want to do bottom too).

Check the classifieds because I remember seeing a set or two of these skins selling for a lot cheaper than retail. best of luck! :)

An auto upholstery could make short work of that. If you can find one near you.

Looking at the stress marks in that area this from getting in and out. These cars are low and the bolsters are high. Makes it impossible not to rub them every time you get in and out unless you weigh a buck.
