DDX916WS in 2013 BRZ

Hey, I just bought the Kenwood DDX916WS to replace the CA-FI radio I've had for a few years. It was really easy to swap out, the only problem I had was my car battery actually died while I was testing out the radio, so had to run and get a new battery (at first I thought I did something wrong)! The radio sounds great, is very responsive, and I really like the android auto. I'm not quite doing installing it, since I have the usb coming out the front at the moment for android auto. Need to figure out if I can just hook that into the existing USB, or have to run it some other way. And then I need to finally install my backup camera.

You can see I have the USB just coming out from under the dash here. I also have the mic cord coming out, but it's not really noticable, and I'll probably leave it there

Do you find it annoying that the controls are on the right side of the screen? This model was only sold in countries with RHD so it makes sense for them...

So far no, but I've only had it for a day now. I also haven't tried the gestures yet, so don't know if they work. It probably would be a little nicer for changing volume if it was on the left, but I don't think it will be a big deal. Mostly I'll be using android auto, so other than the volume I won't be using the buttons that often.

They make a plug and play port setup that replaces the stock remote IO with the same usb and aux port with standard connections that plug into any aftermarket radio.

Thanks jason. I bought that, hopefully will have it saturday and can finish the install. As for the buttons being on the right side, it might be an issue in a larger vehicle, but with the BRZ, the right side of the radio isn't really a stretch. It's no further than when I'm shifting in 5th/6th. So I don't see that as a problem.

did you wire the steering wheel controls? i saw they made it easy, or look easy at least.

What steering wheel controls?

I ran the mic to the stock location on mine and mounted the extra usb to a panel mount in the glove box. I posted a couple pics of it here under the thread "glove box usb". I used the same replacement for the dash mounted usb/auxiliary, works well.

does yours not have audio controls on the steering wheel?

Fd3sr2 01-21-2017 10:39 PM

in the wiring, does the front channel split and power the dash speakers and send signal to the door speaker amp?

ModalSoul37 04-11-2018 12:04 AM

Did you have to replace that section of the dash panel or did you use the existing one from your ‘13 Brz? I have a ‘14 and want to do the same but wasn’t sure if it would fit my existing dash panel.
