Zero's DD FR-S Log
New owner of a Whiteout FR-S.
Step one (or more) will be fixing the bubba work done on it by the first owner. Bald front tires, cheap rears, one coat of red spray paint on the wheels with overspray on the tires and brake parts, flaking matte black paint on the fender garnishes, chunk missing from front bumper from a curb, and an unidentified exhaust kit. First step is getting some new sneakers for it. Getting a pair of cheap wheels and tires so I can strip the wheels and repaint them right, two at a time. Then new rubber. Sumitomo HTR Z2, maybe? I'm new to the car game so I'm open to suggestions. 1-18-17- mounted new Cooper Zeon RS3-A tires all around. Feels much smoother and more consistent. Actually feels like I'm moving slower even when I'm carrying more speed around a corner. Also added a plain black vinyl sun strip. Leaning towards Enkei J10 wheels instead of fooling with repainting the stock ones. 2-8-17- Added clear-on-black turn markers 3-21-17- Motegi Traklite 1 wheels on the way. Identified exhaust as Manzo catback. Adjusted slop out of clutch pedal. Headers up next. Aiming at Tsudo UELs. 3-31-17- Traklites being installed. Needed aftermarket lugs and adapter. $30 at OReilly's. 4-22-17- No Tsudo headers in stock, CNT UEL headers installed today. Good sound, louder than I expected but not crazy bad. Little low end boost, can't find the torque dip anymore, clear rumble with no rasp. Might do something with the Manzo though, it's a little trumpety at high RPM. 4-28-17- Stripped the plasti-dip off of the fender garnishes (and the area around them that the previous owner didn't mask) and repainted them matte black again, this time masked properly. Also blacked the front emblem while I was at it. See photo below. Boxer Takeover tomorrow at Deal's Gap. 5-2-17- MOTUL 300 gear oil in the transmission and an HKS drop in filter. No noticeable change from the filter. Shifting is a bit smoother, some metal on the plug but not much. 6-11-17- TEIN Street Basis Z coilovers installed. 8 hour job. Dropped it 1 inch overall for now, maybe more once it finishes settling. No noticeable increase in harshness on bumps, but small changes in road surface are very clear now. It's much, much more level through turns. The TCS doesn't like it. It comes on much more often now, but I'm not noticing an increase in wheel spin or looseness in cornering. I'm sure it'll feel different when I get a chance to push it some. 5-4-18 - Skipped posting for a long time. Whiteline LCAs and toe arms in the rear, BeatRush camber plates in the front, OFT canned UEL tune, Enkei RPF1s in 17x9, Kumho v720s in 245 all around, Tanabe Concept G single exit exhaust and mid pipe. Aligned with square toe and 1.5 degrees of camber all around. Looking at some front toe-out later. Biggest difference was the tire/wheels obviously. Much more stuck to the ground. Still haven't got a chance to run at their upper limit so I can't say much about them except they're much faster before. The Tanable exhaust is 22lb lighter than the Manzo exhaust, a little quieter and sounds much cleaner. Noticed a bit more torque around 3-5000 too. I had to fabricate a bushing to mate the camber plates with the TEIN struts but otherwise they work fine together. |
