2017 Steering Wheel

I searched but couldn't find the answer.

Will the 2017 brz or 86 steering wheel work on the older models? I have a BRZ and would prefer that steering wheel, but the 86 one would be fine too. I could recall someone saying the harness exists to hook up controls, but I don't know if this is true.

Just get an aftermarket one. You'll have to buy a new airbag to use the 17 wheel.

I was hoping to use the new controls for volume n menu.

these wires from the new wheel will need to plug in to something. no idea if there's a plug-n-play harness that you can use from another car, but without the new wires being connected to something, the controls on the new wheel will be useless.

I read previously that the early models were wired for controls. I think some even tried retrofitting something.

It would be great if someone can confirm by comparing the wiring for the 2017 and 2016 wheels. I'm quite interested in this as well.

I know that you can get the buttons to work as the head unit is steering wheel control ready. I have seen a thread where some one made buttons to control vol, mode, and couple other things and placed it in the center console where the seat heater would go. He had to run wires and do up some circuitry as it uses a series/parallel resister system to tell the head unit what button was pushed.

With that, I dont think it would be that hard. I'm sure the steering wheel buttons have the resistor circuitry already. If there is no wire harness just make one or look up and see how one would look for a TC or almost any Toyota with steering wheel controls.

Read through this. Its alot to take in but with 17' steering wheel ready there would be nothing to fabricate. You may have to do up a wire harness but just read and see what happens.
