Re-pin ODB port
 

Ecutek will no longer will connect to my ODB port. So can't tune or flash. Strangely my ELM for torque does still work fine.

Is there a re-pin kit that's known to work? thanks.

I had issues with a flaky ECUTek connection. Here's what worked for me - a $10 fix.

Worth a try before re-pinning.

Also try bending both rows of pins on the ecutek cable slightly inwards towards the centreline of the plug, use something like an old full size SD card to bend the pins

@steve99 - also a good idea. To add to what I said in the other thread linked above:

The cheap OBD2 Wi-Fi or Bluetooth readers seem to engage the pins at a different angle than an ECUTek cable. Once you use an OBD2 adapter for a while, the somewhat flimsy pins on your car's OBD2 port may not play well with the ECUTek cable.

The low profile extension cable that I got solved the issue. Have done multiple updates to an ECUTek tune using the extension, and the connection was perfect. http://amzn.to/2ghLoM0

yes for sure, i think the pins on some devices are thicker and slightly longer and it spreads the sockets in car socket slightly causing intermittent connection to devices with slightly thinner or shorter pins.

I had terrible trouble with tactrix adapter till i bent the pins on it.

and yer on my car i have shoort obd extension cable connected permanently so im wearing out the cable socket notvmy carsxobd port when i swap connections

Tried this on my OFT cable, was slightly better but still can't take a log without the connection crapping out. I too have used a BT dongle occasionally so that might have caused some issue with the OBD socket.

Will definitely buy the extension cable at some point.

I had this exact problem recently with my ecutek cable. What I did was to use one of those cheap OBD2 extension cables with (mine had an on/off switch) in between the car's OBD port and and ecutek cable. Worked like a charm.

Reason being the male and female pins on the extension cable is fatter so plugs in firmly and securely with the OBD port and ecutek cable. The pins on the ecutek cable is much thinner and a slight bump can make it loose communication with the ecu.

My tuner didn't know this and plugged in his ecutek cable directly into OBD port. And halfway through a flash it lost communication and bricked my ecu. Luckily managed to recover ecu.
