Second-hand TRD Exhaust; where the hell can I buy the hardware?
This has been talked about here around a year ago, but I'm not sure it came up with any conclusive answers.
I bought the TRD exhaust used without the original hardware, so improvised during installation. The gasket from cat-to-midpipe I replaced just fine, but there's a specific one from the midpipe to the muffler I didn't have. I never put that on so just lived with exhaust leak until I noticed it start to rattle, and now I'm trying to get a hold of the original hardware kit to install. This would be the kit I'm referring to, but cannot - for the LIFE of me - find anywhere to buy it. I tried my dealership and the parts department were no help. Does anyone happen to know if/where I can find this set online anywhere? Also, it looks like suprastore has them, but I'm not sure how reliable they are. UPDATE: I went to Amazon and purchased a 2.5" donut gasket in the hopes that this will fit. http://i.imgur.com/MaBNVgel.jpg Subsequently, my dealership called me back about the part and it turns out the reason why he could not find it in the system is because it was physically removed (or some other bullshit). Long story short, "HQ" re-added it to his system and he will be able to order it, as long as I get there before the dealership closes. Since I've got the cash, I'll probably go in and order... but when the part from Amazon arrives, I'll likely install that first before I can replace. The part number is PTR03-18131-AA, which is identical to the actual exhaust system's part number, except for the last two digits, "-AA," which is the indicator that it is the hardware. UPDATE 2: Picked up the hardware kit from the dealership... I would've installed them, but it's raining. I'll post pictures below of the kit since it seems no other image exists besides the stock TRDusa one. http://i.imgur.com/N4pe1s3l.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ZiSvEGrl.jpg |
Bolts are bolts. Hardware stores are a dime a dozen.
The gasket looks like a donut gasket. There's plenty if you know the ID. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...s=donut+gasket |
http://www.suprastore.com/trdexhakit.html
not sure how legit that site is, but that's what I found on the 1st page of Google |
Aye, I can't really find any real info on the gasket though. The TRD parts site says "One GASKET, 2.5" ERISTIC", and I must admit I have no idea what that means and it doesn't turn up anything definitive with a cursory Google search.
I might be able to do some research on the size and probably size testing, but I thought it might've been easier to just find the official hardware set. |
Appreciate the reply! I linked to that exact page in my OP though.
Wouldn't mind buying from that site if immediate search results didn't all say stuff like, "suprastore are robbers" and "stay away from suprastore." Plus, I think it's a Yahoo site... lol |

however, there is some good news in the description of that kit: One GASKET, 2.5" ERISTIC I am pretty sure that's the ID of the gasket |
Haha, I swear I'm not doing this on purpose, but I mentioned that in a reply to mav1178.
What the hell does "ERISTIC" mean? Is it a brand? I can't turn up anything meaningful out of that line of text. Am I an idiot? |

EDIT: https://www.amazon.com/Blox-Racing-B...s=donut+gasket doesn't seem that expensive and it looks fairly easy to get to the connection on the TRD exhaust since it's right behind the muffler. should be a quick job without the need to take the whole exhaust off |
All righty. Yeah, I think I can shell out $12 to give it a shot. Amazon definitely makes it easier.
Thanks again! If it doesn't work out, I suppose I'll go back on the hunt for the hardware kit. |
Or you can buy straight from TRD: http://www.trdusa.com/parts-detail.h...PTR03-18131-AA

I appreciate the reply. I linked to that in the OP, as well. If you can find some way to order right off the site, PLEASE share. As far as I know, it just directs you to dealerships to purchase. And dealerships want you there physically to order stuff.
I went to a dealership tonight to ask about this, gave them the part number, and they were of zero help. It's a longer story because this same dude told me he could order them when I spoke to him on the phone an hour earlier. I guess he wasn't expecting me to show up 30 minutes before closing time. |
Walk into any decent exhaust or auto parts store and say you need a gasket. They will hook you up with the right thing in minutes.

Call your Toyota dealer parts department.

I got mine from SupraStore.
