Automatic Shift knob

Hello!, For any and all automatic shift knob personal... Does anyone know what that rubber piece is called that holds the shift boot together? My car (bought used) apparently didn't have it on... and I can't tell what part number it is to the dealership, they say the only way I can replace it will be to buy a brand new shift knob

They are probably correct. Some parts are only sold as a unit and can't be sold individually or subdivided.

Im confused. Your shift boot is missing something, or your shift knob? A picture of the part might help us figure out what isnt there to guide you better. But it is possible something small like you are describing isnt sold by itself

You need to use the direct link that ends in .jpg

yeah you will need to buy a new automatic shift knob because that plastic lip is attached to the knob assembly. how did that break off in the first place?

whew.. that's lucky not the part thats broken off. its supposed to be a black rubber piece surround the ring on the shift boot itself. My automatic knob is as is, same as the picture.

I have a custom interior bag that I needed to wrap around the knob but apparently I was missing a black rubber piece.

I am prototyping a 3d printed adapter. Buddy printed off a test for me on his printer and I have one coming from Shapeways.

If interested, I can post the STL file and you can have it printed yourself.

Only other requirement is a 10mm nut.

im actually interested in this, im running a adaptar that lets me use a manual shift knob but i have to zip tie the shift boot on the knob

Would a shift boot retainer work?

Pwolf 01-10-2018 11:15 PM

For anyone interested, here's the STL:

The OEM shift knob in the automatic has the retainer attached to the shift knob itself - they are one unit, and therefore the shift knob itself in the automatic is what holds up the shift boot - unlike the manual; I'm not sure what the "rubber piece" the dealership that gave you that information is referring to.

It sounds like your shift knob should be alright, then?
