Temporary vinyl over paint chip down to metal

Hi,

I found a pretty bad paint chip thats down to the metal on the front fender. I ordered a roll of vinyl wrap to temporarily cover the chip and protect it from water/rust.

Will the vinyl cause more paint to peel off with it upon removal? I've never worked with the material before so I'm not sure how it works with the paint. I know that the chip will be visible through the wrap, but I'm not too concerned about that considering it will be an unattractive little 1x1 inch square anyway.

I don't understand the desire to use vinyl when some cover up paint will do a much better job of protecting the steel.

I eventually want to apply paint, wet sand, etc. and try to do it properly but it's been raining on and off and I'm looking for something slightly better than painters/electrical tape which will become gunky from the heat of the sun.

Just hit it with some touch up paint before it rusts. No matter how well you apply a patch of vinyl there will be a void where moisture will collect.

Touch up paint will blend well and after a few weeks you won't notice, you'll be the only one that would.

Good enough to convince me to go that route :thanks:
