Grease on inverted coilovers

Took some photos of my front coilovers yesterday, they are inverted and have been on the car for two weeks.

It's been rainy here, is this just dirt stuck to some sort of white lithium grease used during the shock assembly process?

Looks like grease to me but not sure what it's from

My AST's did exactly the same thing for the first couple of weeks. Just the fronts. Never called to inquire since after cleaning them it stopped happening.

Thanks for chiming in, seems like this might just be normal and a part of the manufacturing process or something.

Also, reminds me that I want to discuss some stuff over PM with you!

manufacturing .. or storing/shipping process?

Mine came with grease like that too. It's normal. The grease will eventually become caked with dirt and will fall off naturally. Haven't had any issues with my coilovers yet!

The grease is from the large bushings that the damper insert rides on in the housing. Some wiil make it's way out because the seal is better at keeping dust out than grease in. After a few years it is a good to take them apart and clean and re-grease them.
