Lost only keyless fob, does this sound legit?
So I'm an idiot and threw away my only KESSY key to my 13 brz limited. Ordered key, thought the dealer could just program and Id be on my way. Turns out they 'need' to send the key off to NJ (I'm in CA) along with ANOTHER key which i have to purchase, plus the KESSY module. This'll probably end up running $800+. Just doesn't sound right. Anyone ever do this?

...and KESSY is a VW acronym.
Make sure your TDI is clean while you're at it Funny I thought I needed to buy a replacement bolt (the crash bolt) when the one I removed disappeared for a bit. The dealer said 2 weeks from CA. I guess same deal for people who need parts in CA, except its two weeks from NJ. LOL |

So confirmed a few days ago by another dealership, apparently the $1k method is the ONLY thing that can work. I've even contacted the dealership that sold me the car and asked him to see if the original owner had the second OE key.
there has to be another way. someone knows.. i will literally swap my whole ignition from keyless to keyd if it was cheaper. |
My understanding is if you dont have the metal tag that came with the sets of keys when the car was sold new they have no way to know what they need to know to program it. I could be wrong but thats what I was told when I bought mine new in 2013. Think the sales guys told me 10 times before I finally left the dealer the day the car was delivered do not lose the metal tag.

keyless is overrated anyway

Just suck it up and pay the fee. I bet you will never lose the tag again. That's the kind of risk you take buying used. |
