I love everyone talking shit about it being RWD. Like @Tcoat is fond of pointing out, 50+ years ago when their grandmother was learning to drive, that's all there was. It's not the inherent catastrophe some people believe it to be, but you'd never convince them of that.

I knew the comments would turn into a shitstorm. It's the main reason I was looking forward to them posting it, lol. I kinda figured all the "Subaru Purists" would get annoyed when Subaru posted their one RWD car in the snow, lol.

Holy crap I just went and read it. That is why I stay away from FB most of the time! How many guys are going to say "I owned one and it will not move in the snow"? |
DailyDriver on youtube noted that there are two things that make a car safe in the snow:
1. ability to stop on snow and ice 2. ability to maneuver/change direction. They noted that the SUV's were considerably less safe in the snow, by a long shot. The light weight and low center of gravity BRZ made their test run in the winter safer than SUVs. They were not trying to prove a point at all, just a fun test of the BRZ/FRS in a high altitude snow place. The awd and 4x4 drive was clearly great for getting out of snow banks and accelerating. One does not avoid a crash with either of those things. 0 hp/0 torque is best for handling/avoidance. Steering in snow will always be better with free moving front wheels. Like a snow mobile, steers great if no torque in front. BRZ has same ground clearance as most sedans too. |
