Bought winter tires with studs (live in hilly area). Now I want to remove the studs..
The studs are tearing up my concrete driveway. Part of the driveway is a serious slope, and the studs didn't do a whole lot one icy morning, except for leaving nice scratch marks in the concrete. Also any time I turn my wheel; more scratch marks.
Pretty much ready to just have them removed. Is this a DIY project or should I take them to a tire shop? These were tires purchased on Tire Rack. |
Tire lube and strong pliers is all you need to pull them out. I would just sell them online and get new stud-less tires just to save myself the nightmare of pulling out a thousand studs.

Any idea how much a big name shop would charge to remove them? Additionally when you say sell them online.. any suggestions where? Craigslist? |
I'm sure you would take a giant hit. The size is not common relative to most cars so you will have few if any takers and most people don't want studs either. Some cities/states don't even permit them for the exact reason you are getting rid of them.

If OP was me,
Id get a $9.99 stud removal tool and spend a day yanking out studs.. i bet it cost a fortune to hire a "professional" |
I have de-studded a set of tires. It was a PITA. I destroyed two pair of diagonal cutters before modifying a large flat tip screw driver. I added a notch in the middle of the tip.

I sold my stock wheels with a set of studded tires for $600. I bought the tires used for $175. I was very happy. (on craigslist)
