Paypal Payment for Shipped Goods Question

I received a text early this morning about someone in California (I'm in Canada) that wants to buy my Tomei header. He is willing to pay full price but he will be sending money through paypal. He will also ask a private courier of his to pick it up from my doorstep.

So my question is, is there any possible scams that could happen from this?

Im thinking that because it's a "private courier" it could just be his friend or even him, and then he will put a dispute up with paypal saying that he didn't receive the item. I don't think a "private courier" can provide a receipt?

Thoughts?

I just assumed it was his friend or even himself lmfao.

I said to send me the money as a gift on paypal. That way you can't dispute it.

You need to issue you a bill of sale thru Paypal for him to pay it in order to qualify for buyer/seller protection. You would then need to show Paypal proof of shipment with a trackable shipping method once shipped.

This private courier sounds like a scam to me.

Technically you can then reverse scam him? lmao

Yeah, the private courier part threw me off. I'll probably ask for the money as a gift or send it through UPS or something.

Do you think E-transfer would be safe?

I wouldn't go with a wire transfer as a stop payment can be done on it afterwards.

Actually I've heard from my friend more than a decade ago where a Paypal transfer got reversed by the cross border buyer trying to scam him. Good thing my friend cashed out with a withdrawl just in time as he shipped out the goods already. I don't know what happened after lol!

Etransfer.

Check the buyers post history and sell/buyer history on here. I am assuming this person is on here. If theyre not definitely looking even more shady. Also ask for specific info regards to this private courier thing. People in CA not likely to buy what youre selling from Ontario. Scammers comb these ads and more.

Seems unlikely a US buyer would want your headers unless you have underpriced them.

Yeah, no way somebody in CA is going to shop for parts in Canada. There is a unlimited supply of used parts for our cars in CA.
I think people in CA change headers and wheels like the rest of us change underwear. I give this transaction a big NOPE.

Tell him no problem.

If paying through Paypal and wants to use a private courier do the following:

A. Have him "gift" the money which will keep him from being able to try and fraud you on a sale.
B. Give him an address that is not yours and meet the courier for pickup there. This mitigates some shady fucker knowing your address.

ThornhillSubaruOwner 12-12-2016 08:14 PM

If he were to use paypal, I was going to withdraw all the cash first lol

He's willing to pay full price $800 cad for my header. Thats what made it even more sketchy.

Shipped? That's only $65 USD less than a brand new one from FT-86SF. Purely based on that and the hassle of getting a header from Canada to California, I would walk away from the transaction. It MAY be a genuine offer, but is it really worth the risk?
