Is a tune needed for a new exhaust?!

Hey, I'm looking at installing a Invidia n1 catback exhaust and Invidia catless frontpipe and wasn't sure if I have to tune my FR-S for it? Also if I don't need a tune, would it be recommended that I get a tune anyways? Thanks!

You dont have to. I didnt at first but I did try doing the OFT stage 1 tune (n1 catback, catless fp and drop in filter). Felt a small difference, only did it cause I got a header and wanted to try stage 1 before I installed it.

No. If you install headers a tune might extract another 15 peak hp. OFT with headers cheapest way to tune without a lot of risk.

WELCOME to ye ol forum, Molina30 ........

I don't think you would need a tune after those mods.

And ....... I wouldn't recommend that you get a tune,...... anyways......;)

Did you have a tune that gave you issues?

Well, no ...... I just believe that when messing with the exhaust, shy of replacing the header with an aftermarket header, that a tune isn't necessary for averaging driving. In addition, it's a great way to mess with warranty work.

Oh, my use of the word "anyways" was in reference to the OP's use of the word "anyways" ...... as I took to mean ...... just for the heck of it.

humfrz - jest ain't no fun ......:(

I get it. It just sounded like u might have had a bad tune at one point. There were some bad ones early on.

there's no need to get a tune for just replacing the front pipe and cat back, however, I would recommend buying an OFT (you can find a used one for around $400) and doing a "stage 1" tune for better drive-ability. you probably won't have much of a horsepower increase from the tune, but the car will run better. once you decide you want an aftermarket header (which you probably will later on) then you can get the "stage 2" tune from OFT without spending extra cash and that tune will actually add some extra HP. in regards to warranty work, you can always flash the car back to stock with the OFT as well.

Well, I did have a bad tune once, back-in-the-day, that I did myself.

I was replacing the spark plug wires on my old Chevrolet and didn't pay attention to which wire went to which hole in the distributor cap.

Then I had a misconception about the firing order.

Talk about ..... backfire! ....... :bonk:

A tune is not necessary for a catback & front pipe, but if you go with the OFT Tune option it will be a great device to compliment your car and mods.

Read my review for more information on the OFT.
