New frs owner

Hello I am proud to say I am now an official new Scion FR-S owner in which it's only my second car first a hand me down Honda which I never really expermented with so I'm a noob a mod virgin and I wanted to know what mods I should do on my frs I want to make it more beautiful have a different body kit exhaust better wheels and so on please help me out cuz even I have no clue what I'm saying lol

PetrolioBenzina 11-27-2016 12:24 AM

A wide body kit is what you want. People laugh with you, not at you.

rkaywhodat 11-27-2016 12:24 AM

Congratulations on your new ride, I recommend to not impulse buy anything. Each mod may make the ride noiser and or more uncomfortable. And more importantly for me...I want to spend the money actually driving it :D

That being said the mods I would do are better tires/nice wheels , air filter replacement, I would getting lowering springs if I didn't have to deal with snow.

My first modded car I spent a few thousand then said to myself, what did that few thousand actually get me? Take it slow and just enjoy the new car and may be take a nice vacation as well with the mod money :)

CONGRATULATIONS on your new purchase and WELCOME to ye ol forum .....

First off, is to put premium gas in the car.

Then, read the owners manual ...... yes, ALL of it ..... not just how to set the radio.

Plan on following the maintenance schedule.

Drive it for a few weeks without doing anything to it.

Decide how you plan on driving the car; track, spirited canyon carving, DD, or garage queen.

Ask yourself, what do you want the car to do better .. ?? You may discover that it is just fine right out of the box.

That should get you started .........

Read about any mod you plan to do. Learn what it does, how it works, discover downsides or potential cons to the modification, listen to what other people say about it, then drive the car for a bit, sleep on it a few weeks, and then, and only then consider buying/performing the modification.

Finally, do not cheap out on the part (you generally get what you pay for, especially with car parts)...it never hurts to just sit back and save money for a bit before going on a spree.

THIS^^^^^^^^^^ All of it but especially the last part.

FR-Sky 11-27-2016 05:42 AM

I hope you still single, cus this car will suck all your money =]

Mim 11-27-2016 06:16 AM

Grats on the purchase and welcome to the forums! My suggestion would be to read through other peoples builds and see what they've done. You may find some inspiration there.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40

Have a good ponder around what you want the car to become moving forward. Its good to have a vision in mind and then research what parts you need to get there.

PetrolioBenzina 11-27-2016 06:34 AM

There aren't any mods you "should" do, either.

Lantana frs 11-27-2016 10:38 AM

Big turbo, e85, crappy tune and a leaf bag to catch the parts as they exit your car. Jk. Lol. Dont buy anything that hasn't been debugged by others.

turtlefeeder 11-27-2016 04:11 PM

Good exterior mod would probably be stuff like head light and tail lights. They're simple to put on if you watch diy on YouTube or other source. Than wheels and tires. Than maybe dropping it with coilover to go with those wheels. Than ride it for a while more and maybe a body kit to your liking to match wheel and ride height. One thing at a time. Maybe when you exterior is all set start looking into performance

Leonardo 11-27-2016 04:52 PM

Get your windows tinted. Great first mod!

Be careful! Have fun!

The roads in LA are not that great, so I would discourage stiffer springs or lowering. The suspension on this car is very stiff to begin with and unless you want to track the car a LOT it won't be worth the sacrifice in ride quality.

Agree on the stiff springs lol probably will get a really whacked out ride from it but lowering with with coilover and adjustable damping is fine. I commute to LA for work and I'm lowered on coilover gotta say it's not bad at all

PetrolioBenzina 11-27-2016 07:43 PM

What's driving this desire to drag your car through a parts catalog, OP?

86Boyz 11-28-2016 11:20 AM

Don't mod. Stay stock. Resale value will be higher.

Bad investment. Most likely will lose money on selling used parts.

Yeah but the heart wants what it want 😝

Some punctuation might help out there.

Not to be that guy, but at the same time it's really poor forum etiquette. Put a bit more time into both research and writing your posts.

To address your actual questions(?)... figure out what you want to do with the car first. Track, autox, drift, show, whatever. Then, assuming it's something other than hardparking, try doing that type of driving event stock a few times. Once you learn the car well enough, then start modifying accordingly. Don't worry, you'll likely completely ignore this advice. Most all of us do.

[Addressing the forum crowd] Also, does this just seem like a troll account to anyone else? lol

One post.
Very little info given

Has all the earmarks of a troll post.

My guess however is it is not and they will eventually be back with more base questions. It is the new breed of owner and I have become used to them now.

Sounds like the making of a new internet law. How many years does an internet forum for something have to exist before there are no new (reasonable) questions that can't be answered with reading a bit?

Doubt it takes a year to build the base info on any really active site. Still get surprised by some of the new things that pop up now and then though. In reality forums would just die if everybody just came, found their info and moved on though.

I actually don't plan on doing any mods yet. I want to enjoy the frs as is for now maybe for a year or six months I plan to learn from everyone here in the forums first so I can be set on the right path and have knowledge of what I'm doing.

Good man. If I could have back all the time/money I spent on mods that I never should have done on my old Eclipse (coilovers that were not quality and caused all kinds of headaches, a bad for performance blow-off valve, etc.), I would be like 5 grand richer and would haev had a much more enjoyable ownership expereince...no joke

Shark_Bait88 11-29-2016 10:41 AM

Sorry, didn't mean to come off sounding like a a$$. haha

By "Don't worry, you'll likely completely ignore this advice. Most all of us do." I really meant that most of us do. I modified my car before I actually needed the upgrades, and this was with knowing the "proper" way to upgrade a car. It was more of a, try to follow this golden rule of modifying appropriately but don't stress about it too much. :)

And it's the internet, someone had to be the grammar Nazi at some point. lol

@Newfrsowner drive the car for awhile, maybe go do an autocross, track day, or drift day to see if it's for you. Once you've figured out what you really want to do with the car, research a ton and ask questions. People are more than willing to help out, especially if you're doing anything to try to actually improve your driving skill (like autox or HPDE).

Somewhat in my defense, the lack of punctuation, username, question and account activity do come off as kind of troll-ish.

Welcome to the forums! Don't be afraid of asking questions, even if there are people like me who come off as ****s ;)

Cole 11-29-2016 10:53 AM

Eh, buy whatever shit you want to buy.

Coming from the guy who has had 3 sets of after market headlights, two sets of aftermarket tail lights, 3 sets of wheels, 2 sets of coils, now on springs, 8 different exhausts, 2 headers. All in under 2 years of ownership. Cars are fun until you start doing the math on stupid purchases.

The mod bug bit hard af in the first year of ownership. Now I've slowed way down and am only buying used parts, which I'd totally recommend doing.
