Clutch floor pad / cushion?

I'm wondering if there's supposed to be some kind of foam or pad behind the clutch pedal to cushion it on the floor?

After 30k miles I noticed that my clutch pedal to the floor felt uncomfortable and made creaks against the floor/firewall or whatever it rubs against, checked behind the pedal assembly and there was a worn adhesive strip there. Any ideas thanks.

There is nothing on my 2013 FR-S. The pedal arm just hits the padding on the floorboard.

In another thread they talked about putting one of those stick on felt chair/table leg pads on the floorboard.

Curious, with such a high release point on the clutch, why are some people slamming it into the floorboard ... ??

Not the floorboard, stick on a felt button to replace that POS rubber bump stop.

That's easy to read in my head. Then I tried to say it out loud. :(

There's supposed to be a rubber stop which prevents what you're hearing. It fits into a hole in the metal piece the clutch arm hits when fully pressed (get down there with a flashlight and watch as you press the clutch in with your hand). If you don't see one there anymore (and rather you see a hole), yours probably broke in half and fell on the floor never to be seen again. Mine broke in half too and I noticed it when I was down there inspecting the clutch spring.

You can replace it with just about anything rubber or felt that you can find laying around with an adhesive back. As mentioned above, @Ultramaroon found chair leg pads to be a great replacement. Since I didn't have any and cbf to go get some I used a cut piece of rubber drawer liner and 3M tape. Let me know if you want a picture.

Rubber bump stop .. ??

Oh, way up there. I can sort of feel it, but my body won't twist enough to let me see it ....:(

And I'm NOT about to move the seat back ...... cause I will NEVER be able to get it back to exactly where it was ..... :sigh:

Sorry, @radroach for putten out some bad poop there.

But @Ultramaroon straightened me out ...... as usual ..... ;)

Nothing frustrates me more than trying to twist myself into the footwell to try and do anything worthwhile under there. Sure fire way to get me cussing up a storm within 30 seconds.

I spent 20 minutes stuck in the floor under a dishwasher this afternoon. Eventually just thought "What would @humfrz do?" So I had a nap while down there.

I sure do hear that. Even with a light strapped to my head thing, the light is never in the right place. Then my tri-focals won't focus. Then, my arm won't bend that way. Then, sure as hell, I'll get at least one charley horse in my legs and start yelling.

Then, mrs humfrz comes running out and tries to pull me out from in there ..... I yell more because of the Charley horse ..... she gets frustrated and leaves me there to die.

Now, that I'm wiser, I just put stuff like that on a list for my son-in-law to do when he comes over ....... after all, he owes me ....... for looking after his kids all week long ...... :D

Well, back in the day, humfrz would have taken the dishwasher out, pulled off the panels, found the problem, drove to the Sears parts center, bought the parts, installed them, re-installed the dishwasher, had a couple of strong bloody Marys ...... then taken a nap.

However, a few months ago, our dishwasher was leaking (out from underneath the center). So, I called the local, friendly, Sears service man and he came out and replaced some parts so it don't leak no more ........ then I took a nap ..... exhausted from watching him .......:)

The only problem with the old one was that it was white.

Yep! Just pull the rim on the top and slide the panel in.

Have you been on your back and looked up in there with a flashlight yet?

Go to the hardware store and get a pack of felt furniture glides. Take one and stick it up there where the piece of shit rubber stop used to be. Done.

Easy there, Captain Falcon, it's only a clutch pedal.

If you don't like @Ultramaroon 's stick-em things, I suggest you get a rubber piece and position and attach it to where the wore out one was.

Some people, especially us tall ones, push the pedal all the way to the floor every time. That's always been my reference. I killed mine within a few thousand miles. It's junk.

The felt is perfect. No rubbery feeling but still nicely padded. It lasts too.

Here's a picture. Stick it up in place of the stopper.

Lead leg ..... :confused0068:

DANG, Ultramaroon ....... it's not like shifting an old Mac truck with a vacuum assisted clutch after the vacuum hose came off ....... :D

Reminds me of the time, I was driving an old tractor trailer rig down in Kentucky, when I came upon a toll booth late one night. As I was throwing change at the basket on the toll booth, I heard an evil hiss and the clutch assist line had broke.

I was already in low gear with the clutch almost disengaged when the toll booth didn't think I had fed it enough money and wouldn't raise the toll gate. I couldn't get the transmission back out of gear, when my leg gave out and ....... through the gate I went.

Nope, I didn't stop till I hit the West Virginia state line......:D

You rebel!

Icecreamtruk 01-27-2017 12:01 PM

So aside from making metal on metal noise, is there any drawbacks on not having a stopper? Im pretty positive mine is also out.

AsianStyle 01-27-2017 12:30 PM

https://www.mcmaster.com/#9541k2/=qxu4k1

Same as the works kick clutch pedal stop, just a ton cheaper. I don't think there is any issue with driving without any clutch stopper except the noise, but the feel does change a bit.

The "rest of the story" was that, after unloading the milk, I followed the river up to Ripley, Ohio, where my luck ran out (sort of). A young Ohio State Highway Patrolman pulled me over for not having a RR taillight, which had burnt out and he discovered I was only 17 years old and didn't have a CDL.

Since I wasn't loaded (empty tanks), he sent me off packing back to where I came from (Blanchester, Ohio), with a warning and a promise not to drive any tractor trailer until I got a CDL. He was a nice guy.

Ahhhhh ...... yes, the good ol days ...... "10 forward gears and a Georgia overdrive" ........

Thank you for bumping this thread, I just had a look in my car and mine has split too 40.000km 2012 Gt86.

I felt like my car drove different the last couple of weeks. The bite point of the clutch felt higher, I almost decided to have the whole pedal adjusted..

Well now, now that I know where to look ........ I reckon I'll set up a series of mirrors and lights and take a look at mine.

Or, better yet, stick one of my granddaughters under there with a camera, have her take a picture and hand the camera back to me ...... ;)

Oh NO, not me, the last time I attempted to get into that footwell, I felt like a raccoon stuck in a have-a-heart trap ...... :confused0068:
