Yes.

;) What's your opinion these days on the spring situation? I know you kept going back and forth over the years in that slave thread.

I used to drive a Porsche Boxster S so I know what's it's like to have a stiff clutch, and I don't exactly want to go back to that but I would like it to feel a bit more responsive and traditional. It was kind of hilarious going from that car to this, I felt like I was pushing my foot into thin air and I hated it at first.

I've gotten used to getting smoother shifts in this car but I have to think about it to make it happen, if I'm driving alone and stop giving a f*ck the shifts are a little rocky, not that I mind much anymore.

I've gone back to liking the spring as a little convenience but others' opinions are split. IMHO, first is the skinny slave to get it more crisp. Then, if you still want it to push back more without changing the throw, remove it.

Just don't toss the parts.

Awesome. There's an autozone on my way to work that has the slave in stock, I'll pick it up on Monday.

Do I need anyone to help me bleed the clutch if I leave that spring alone? If I understood correctly the pedal stays pushed into the floor.

Actually, if you reverse the order, open bleed valve, push pedal, close valve, you can do it alone quite handily.

I just did 2 more swaps for friends a couple weeks ago. I don't even go through a measurable amount of fluid anymore, or those gaskets.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I start by breaking loose the banjo fitting and retighten just a little snug.
Unbolt the slave cylinder.
Have the new one at the ready with the rubber stopper removed.
Squeeze the fluid out of the old one by compressing the piston.
While holding the piston and lifting the banjo fitting above the level of the fluid in the reservoir, detach the banjo fitting. Mind that gasket that goes against the cylinder.
Let go of the piston only after the line is detached. It's tricky but doable. Practice the moves first.
With the piston in the new one compressed, attach the hydraulic line and tighten a little. Release the piston. It will suck in the fluid.
Mount the new slave. Wait a few minutes for the bubbles inside the cavity to coalesce and rise to the top.
Crack open the bleed valve with a towel underneath. Give it a few seconds. The air will simply work itself out.
Close the bleed valve. Done.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I've done the last five like this. Even taking my time it's like 20 minutes.

@Ultramaroon Is it normal that I don't hear the squeak when I manipulate the fork myself?

Edit: the answer is yes apparently. Just finished putting the slave back and no more squeak after adding a blob of grease ;) Thanks!!

I don't think usage is the real issue. Mine has been squeaking for the past 10k miles or so (I have 34k on my 2016) and I drive something like 90% freeway, opposite of you.

Which is what I've been doing, so far. I figured some day when I have free time I would grease up whatever was easily accessible to be greased.

Moving the slave out of the way and taking the boot off takes about 5 minutes, and then adding the grease and reassembling is pretty quick as well. There's little excuse not to take care of it if it bothers you ;)

I've also wondered if it might not be a temperature thing. I know @Tcoat doesn't track his. I've had mine out as well as plenty of spirited group runs.

Maybe the OEM grease is just shit. I'll follow with pics this summer when I drop the trans again. I plan on staying ahead of this.

The squeak was always worse for me when the car's been warmed up. When I start it first thing in the morning in 40F weather it would be relatively quiet. I'd guess once the grease heats up it runs too thin because it's shitty but I'm a computer engineer not a mechanical one :burnrubber:
