DIY: Dash cam install A118-C
I'm writing this DIY because recently I had got into an accident. There are other DIY Dash cam install (I think blackvue that was pretty popular) thats inspiring me to post this.
The dash cam I bought is from Spy Tec from Amazon.com model A118-C. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Spy-Tec-A118-...&keywords=a118 Link for A119 (Better option and newer, I think its 20 extra dollars): https://www.amazon.com/Spy-Tec-A119-...&keywords=a119 When you unpackage everything you want your long 12V charger, mounting clip, and A118-C with memory card inside. I will show you my method of routing my wire. 1. Determine where you want your dash cam to be installed. http://i.imgur.com/3uhnJqF.jpg http://i.imgur.com/QfQLfqx.jpg 2. Start tucking the wire inwards to the head liner http://i.imgur.com/sQQbNOw.jpg 3. Once you stuffed the wire all the way towards the passenger side, pull out the plastic A-pillar by pinching the top. http://i.imgur.com/vV8iFUT.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Gb7MqI3.jpg 4. After the top part of the A-pillar comes off take your finger on to the outside of the exposed A-pillar by pulling out further http://i.imgur.com/Vf4J5MI.jpg http://i.imgur.com/GZWuoet.jpg http://i.imgur.com/i50sttX.jpg 5. After the A-pillar is popped out enough, you can start routing the wire towards the side of the dash pillar. http://i.imgur.com/yMvivg6.jpg 6. Remove the side plastic piece on the dash-pillar by putting your finger in the small gap in the bottom http://i.imgur.com/3xDoztX.jpg 7. After letting the bottom of the side piece pop out enough you can slowly work your way up to remove the entire piece http://i.imgur.com/jtJbmAJ.jpg 8. You want your wire to pass through here so you can plug in the 12V plug behind the glove box http://i.imgur.com/56RVPOr.jpg http://i.imgur.com/AZcbJzG.jpg 9.This is how my set up looks like http://i.imgur.com/RU7CadH.jpg |
Hey, I saw you on Reddit. And I have the same setup :)

I might try this just to neaten up the car. The air bag won't explode when messing with the pillar, right? haha

I have a similar shaped dash camera (Street Guardian), though I put it on the other side (and I also have the huge ass mirror instead). routed the same way as well. the glovebox port is great. more cars need it

I have the same camera in almost the exact same spot!

Thanks for the DIY bro! Only thing I would add is to zip tie your wires to the dash frame to avoid any annoying rattles down the road! Here's my DOD LS470W setup:

Love my A119, out of the 4 dash cams I've owned it's the best one yet.
Although I hard-wired mine in using Add-a-fuse because I like having 2 power plugs readily available (extremely easy to do). http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b4...psgp3loxak.jpg |

Just FYI, you can really expedite the install by grabbing power behind the dome light in the homelink mirror harness. The harness is there on all cars, usually taped back a few inches.

I went with the Garmin Dash Cam 20 so if I get stopped by a cop I can turn it to record the encounter.
