Oil change after break in?

I just hit 1004 miles on my FRS the other day. I visited by my trusted mechanic to pick his brains a bit about what oil to use. He said since I'm not going to be pushing the car too hard and just use it as a country road driver, sticking with the 0w20 oil will probably be just fine. I asked him if he thinks I should swap out the oil on the car now that I'm through with the break in period and he said "Nah. Just wait until you hit 3k and come in for a change."

I'm a bit worried about particle deposits from the break in period though, so I'm tempted to get it swapped early. Will I harm the engine if I go one route or the other?

The only thing you can hurt by changing your oil too frequently is your wallet (Provided you don't cross thread anything or otherwise damage something in the process of changing the oil course). If you're concerned about it, then change the oil. No harm will come from it.

+1. Its worth it if it gives you a peace of mind.

For new cars i change at 1K then at 2K then normal 3K oil changes at the time.....Then go synthetic around 15K....just the way I have always done it so thats what i stick with.

I plan on doing a 1K, 3K and then every 5K. I'll probably stay with the 0W-20 with Ran Up.

I just did mine.. I'm a few miles shy of 1000. I like the idea of getting the initial metal deposits and stuff out as I'm finishing break-in period.. this way I can feel more comfortable revving the engine higher moving forward.. Not saying I'm planning to to redline often.. but I'll at least feel comfortable over 4k rpms when I need or desire.

I think 1k miles is great.. then I'll probably do it again at 5k, 10k, 15k, etc..

How much is everybody paying for an oil change? I paid 12 bucks for labor and about 45bucks for 0-20w oil. I can see this getting a little more expensive than my usual oil change for a coroalla.

Just spent $100 on 12 quarts of Royal Purple, and 7 on a K&N Filter. Doing it myself that's only $53 bucks. Hopefully with better oil than most places provide.

I did spend $23 on a drain valve, but that doesn't count per change in my mind.

Going to change it today if that valve comes in. Just over 1400 miles.

Am i the only one waiting till 7500 like the manual suggests?

I just want to go by the book until the warranty expires:iono:

You should return the Royal Purple ASAP and buy some Redline Full synthetic oil. It's Ester based and not crappy oil with good marketing hype like Royal Purple. If you really want to go baller, get some Motul 300V. If you want more budget minded oil that is still really good, get Amsoil. Basically, just about anything is going to be better than Royal Purple. Good luck.

$7 for the a filter from Subaru (I've heard Scion dealers are charging $20 for the same part :bonk:)

I decided to try Mobil 1 0W-20 this time. 6 quarts from Wal-Mart was around $38. I used a hair less than 5.5 so next time I'll only need 5 quarts... assuming no oil consumption issues

So figure around $45 per oil change. If I'm not happy with the Mobil 1 then maybe I'll try something different.. we'll see.

No reason to pay for labor... super easy oil to do in your driveway in 15 minutes.

0-20 is all fully synthetic, so you have to use it right away on this car.

I personally changed mine at 1500 miles for piece of mind.
