how likely is it that we will see any of these on the 2014 model frs?

push button start

HID headlights

small increase to horse power

flattening out of the torque dip in the power band.

lighter curb weight

do you think any or all of these will be a possibility for the 2014 model? i know i saw a post on here about an improved intake system for the next model, so it's got me thinking. i plan on at least waiting till the 2014's are anounced before i buy.

That would be a pretty substantial redesign/re-engineering for one year. My guess would be that at least the power and curb weight differences would wait 2-3 years.

Well, as far as thoughts...

PBS--probably not.
HIDs.--probably not, but they may offer it as an option (along with a completely new headlight housing, which will cost probably $400, since Toyota likes to do the whole thing as a plug-and-play as opposed to taking apart the headlamp)
HP increase--doubt it
Torque curve "fix"--probably not. Reference the numerous threads about that dip to see that there apparently is a reason for it, and a consequence if they remove it.
Weight decrease--highly doubt it.

and if you wait until they announce the 2014, you will be getting a 2014, I can almost guarantee it, based on how many people are still waiting for their FR-Ss

Nepenthe 07-11-2012 10:36 AM

a couple new colors -- probably!

just86 07-11-2012 10:58 AM

they better offer the JDM headlights next year, still holding out for those headlights will not buy shitty headlights

I was going to start a post like this, I can easily see them adding JDM headlights to the USDM market as an option/upgrade just to squeeze that much more money out of the car. It would be very wise if you asked me.

The lack of ANY features available even as an after-purchase is what's kept me from getting one and what's steering me towards the BRZ. I get it, you want us to make it our own. Well...give us the parts to without importing from Japan dammit! :P

Yes in the Release Series 1.0

HID headlights
Standard across the line (the car needs this)

Small increase to horse power
not gonna happen the car does not need any more power

Flattening out of the torque dip in the power band.
Will happen because this is just a tuning issues...

Lighter curb weight
Not going to happen, the car is already light as it can be, will happen in the next generation if there is one...

I'll ask the newbie question since I'm still an official newb on this one. Are we getting the RS and I missed it? Thought that was a Japan deal.

Release Series, or RS, is a Scion thing. They usually just throw a body kit on, add some Release Series numbered badges, give it a unique color and sometimes they put cool stuff like lowering springs, different exhaust and PBS. All of it is going to bring the FRS cost up to at least where the limited is.

I saw something on here about a redesign to the intake manifold as well, but there is nothing saying it will be out next year. Hopefully, if they do redesign it, they can also retune to work out that torque dip, but I think there will always be some sort of dip there unless they sacrifice some top end power.

disclaimer: I don't have any connections and got all my information from this site. Don't take it as fact.

HIDs most likely won't be available. If you want more features, there's always the BRZ.
The torque dip is a consequence of tuning for higher RPM power and isn't going away without some sacrifice of top end performance, so it most likely won't change without some engine revisions.

It sounds like these are all things you want, but that doesn't mean they will appear.

Chewie4299 07-11-2012 12:34 PM

In the UK and other countries where both twins are available it looks like the Subie is the more basic of the two in terms of features with the Toyota having ~2 trim levels.

Looks like they agreed to flip that around for North America.

If this continues then you'll need a BRZ for those features.

Personally, I intend to add the features I care about myself.
