what cars you won't touch?
Last night me and my friends drinking on a local bar, till some kind of car meet started, a lancer (not evo) with a evo 8 wing and some body kit, scion tc with a monster energy drink stickers & of course civics.
friends asked me what are cars I wont even touch, tune or modify my list nothing in order, , toyota corolla (FWD), honda accords, scion xb, neon or aveo, mitsubishi eclips or regular lancer. so what do members here dont want to touch, im sure all of us have this since we are all car enthusiast? |
So my list will be for cars I won't work on.
Vw Audi Pretty much anything german Vans 5.3l trailblazers Diesels |
Ahh really? You wouldn't turn a wrench on my XRS????
Honestly, you could give me nearly any car or truck to wrench on and I'd try to make it faster just for the hell of it. I'm however the "all go no show type". You won't catch me putting on stupid body panels, wings, neons, pearlescent paint, sound systems, and useless mufflers. I don't like attracting attention except when my foot is planted. |
Anything German. I swear, they have engineers aside from the others who's job is to figure out how to make working on those things the most agonizing experience in the world.
Oh, and basically any fronter. Its not a 'FWD sucks!' mentality, its a "ffs, they leave you with no room to do anything" mentality. |
wont drive:
any mustang well pretty much any american car except the ford fiesta hatch. lol the saturn sky or pontiac solstice any honda except the Acura nsx and S2000 |

My list gose of cars I won't touch/drive/tune: any 4 door fwd car, any V6 fwd car even if its 2 door |
If it isn't already performance oriented or doesn't look good I'll leave it alone. Can't take crap and make it look good or go fast without lots if money
|
have you guys really done much work on anything german? my cousin's E39 M5 is actually quite easy to work on. every vehicle has something on it that is a pain to do. for example, if one of the knock sensors on my Tacoma goes out, the head on that side needs to be removed to change the knock sensor.
there are still certain things that i don't enjoy doing, such as rebuilding front ends on 1-ton pickups and stuff, but other than that, i don't really mind. :iono: |
What do you guys mean when you say "won't touch". I see a lot of you saying you won't touch FWD cars and even Hondas?
Sounds pretty ignorant because suspension modification can make huge increase in performance in these types of cars. And yes I'm biased because I modified the suspension of my Accord. |
Won't touch= not worth the time/money/headache to really do anything worth while. At least thats how I took it, and each person is going to have their own opinion, some will only work on hondas, others won't bother etc. Nothing against any certain brand just personal preference
|
Anything Dodge.

I find no reason why a boring or slow car can't be made to perform better with the appropriate funds! I'm however against making the boring or slow car look or sound like it's faster than everyone knows it is. If it was possible to bolt a 2GR into the engine bay of Prius then mine would be painted green! |

Just as I thought  man I'm smart |
Non-Si Honda Civic
SRT4 (been there, hated it) Eclipses regardless of variant (looks horrid) 95-up Dodge Vehicles (except Jeep and SRT10s) Cavalier Any fwd Toyota Most SUVs Most pickups (minus the SRT Ram, Lightning, and Raptor) Older Chevy/Ford muscle cars (I love old Mopars) R35 GT-R (computer on wheels=lame) Suspension mods made my FWD Mazda6S a track monster. It was great before (best handling fwd car 04-07) but sways and springs make it amazing. It has literally no understeer at all. |

I was speaking from a 'working on it to fix shit' perspective. I've heard BMW's are the exception to the rule, but I've worked on a few Audi's and I swear to everything that is holy that working on those car's are just....ugh, never again.
As far as tuning? Anything FWD.:bellyroll: |
audi, vw, and mercedes seem to be a bigger PITA, but BMWs really aren't bad to work on at all.

For me I wouldn't touch any car with rust, any American car made after 1973, a car w/out potential or a car that is already fixed up. |

By Mitsubishi Eclipse I'm assuming you are talking about the bloated heavy ass NA FWD 3rd and 4th generations right. I can see the hate for the all to ubiquitous riced out fast and furious second gen models too but, The Turbo AWD 1st gen Mitsu Eclipse/Eagle Talon/Plymouth Lasers were the sh!t. It went all down hill after that though. |
Plymouth lasers huh? Never heard that but the first 2 ya, interesting

back to the topic Hm... here's my lists for the cars that I don't wanna work on (physically).

Obviously in stock form the Prius doesn't, but imagine if you could easily bolt on an engine and transmission with 268hp. I think it would be a riot watching a Prius dust a Mazdaspeed 3 from a stop light or drag tree. You know what? I'm actually glad I own this particular Corolla. It's taught me to look past sheet metal and that even a boring dreary A-B fwd car can be turned into something marginally fun with a couple of parts (;some big) from the bin and some good engineering... |

my friends don't like how I tune cars, they call me no grey area cuz, for me if I modify a car it better be full track or nothing at all, for me if I put money, time and research it better not just go 0-60mph or red light green light kill kill or go and show BS. I like to hear that 9,200rpm sing, feel that 4 piston caliper bit and catch that rear end slid. thats how I want my car, if your definition of a monster is a fwd mazda 6 thats on you, this is what makes us different from each other, soon when this FT86 is out and everyone has one you can pick out who are the serious tuners or just hard parker. |

:word: I'd tune a Lada if I had a good reason to. |
Does the anti-German vibe come from their early love of mechanical fuel injection?
Mechanical fuel injection sounds scary... |
I'm curious about the anti-German sentiments here too. Perhaps it's just because this is a Japanese car forum and people just want to be patriotic towards the cars' nationality? I've worked on a lot of German cars over the years and other than their fetish for special tools and technology-for-the-sake-of-technology they're no different/harder to work on than other nationalities.
Regarding the thread title; I think the only cars I won't touch are rusted ones. Rust makes working on cars a billion times tougher than fresh & clean. |
Can't speak for all but the problems on my buddies Audi A4 and M3 were electrical. The passenger window would get stuck rolling up, dash lights flickering, left tail light would consistantly go out etc.
|
Exage, why did you quote me and then defend yourself? I wasn't trying to say anything negative about you or 1GoZoom.
|
Then I mistook your comment for being a negative poke at 1GoZooms' following comment in reference to my original (as both were quoted by you), even if you didn't mean it that way. To each his own I guess.

o yeah forgot to add I wont touch any toaster looking car, not even a super hot girl asked me to
|
If it has at least 2 wheels I will work on it... I love cars.. I can find something enjoyable about any car.. Plus I find it more fun to work on cars others would not touch...
but I would never work on a gas powered RC car again.. last one I did kind of blow up .. |
