what cars you won't touch?

Last night me and my friends drinking on a local bar, till some kind of car meet started, a lancer (not evo) with a evo 8 wing and some body kit, scion tc with a monster energy drink stickers & of course civics.

friends asked me what are cars I wont even touch, tune or modify

my list nothing in order, , toyota corolla (FWD), honda accords, scion xb, neon or aveo, mitsubishi eclips or regular lancer.

so what do members here dont want to touch, im sure all of us have this since we are all car enthusiast?

Midship Runabout 04-10-2011 01:57 AM

So my list will be for cars I won't work on.

Vw
Audi
Pretty much anything german
Vans
5.3l trailblazers
Diesels

Exage 04-10-2011 02:25 AM

Ahh really? You wouldn't turn a wrench on my XRS????

Honestly, you could give me nearly any car or truck to wrench on and I'd try to make it faster just for the hell of it.

I'm however the "all go no show type". You won't catch me putting on stupid body panels, wings, neons, pearlescent paint, sound systems, and useless mufflers. I don't like attracting attention except when my foot is planted.

OldSkoolToys 04-10-2011 02:37 AM

Anything German. I swear, they have engineers aside from the others who's job is to figure out how to make working on those things the most agonizing experience in the world.

Oh, and basically any fronter. Its not a 'FWD sucks!' mentality, its a "ffs, they leave you with no room to do anything" mentality.

Fortunate Few 04-10-2011 05:23 AM

wont drive:
any mustang
well pretty much any american car except the ford fiesta hatch.
lol the saturn sky or pontiac solstice
any honda except the Acura nsx and S2000

but what about the EG6's, last gen celica's, and integra's? If I got these sure will work on them, these are bada$$ fwd cars :D

My list gose of cars I won't touch/drive/tune:
any 4 door fwd car, any V6 fwd car even if its 2 door

C-Bone 04-10-2011 01:08 PM

If it isn't already performance oriented or doesn't look good I'll leave it alone. Can't take crap and make it look good or go fast without lots if money

NESW20 04-10-2011 02:38 PM

have you guys really done much work on anything german? my cousin's E39 M5 is actually quite easy to work on. every vehicle has something on it that is a pain to do. for example, if one of the knock sensors on my Tacoma goes out, the head on that side needs to be removed to change the knock sensor.

there are still certain things that i don't enjoy doing, such as rebuilding front ends on 1-ton pickups and stuff, but other than that, i don't really mind. :iono:

#87 04-10-2011 03:11 PM

What do you guys mean when you say "won't touch". I see a lot of you saying you won't touch FWD cars and even Hondas?

Sounds pretty ignorant because suspension modification can make huge increase in performance in these types of cars.

And yes I'm biased because I modified the suspension of my Accord.

C-Bone 04-10-2011 07:16 PM

Won't touch= not worth the time/money/headache to really do anything worth while. At least thats how I took it, and each person is going to have their own opinion, some will only work on hondas, others won't bother etc. Nothing against any certain brand just personal preference

aliphian 04-10-2011 08:12 PM

Anything Dodge.

I agree with this

I owned a B series civic hatch (EJ/EK) and will say low weight plus decent power and double wishbone suspension = fun

Zaku 04-10-2011 10:18 PM

Morris Marina

Giccin 04-10-2011 10:57 PM

Won't touch any American Brand Cars.

:l

Won't touch a Mercedez, Kia, Scion, Hondas.

don't take it personally its not about your xrs or any FWD corolla, i didnt say corollas are not good cars my mom had one and my uncle had one, its about if I'll put money and time on a car will "I" put that on a FWD corolla or a different car?

"wont touch" or " will not spend money or time",actually your the ignorant this are peoples preference nothing to do with your accord or any other peoples car. you can make all cars better thats why its called "tuning" but since people are different they have their own preference on what or what not they want to spent time & money on. I can understand if people wont do a AE86, its old, alot of work and expensive. I wont take offense on that cuz thats what the other person thinks...

No offence taken, I was just razzing you a bit haha. I've just seen a ton a videos with various modified 9th gen Corolla XRS dishing it to some of the favourites in the fwd sport compact equipped with similar modifications and tuning.

I find no reason why a boring or slow car can't be made to perform better with the appropriate funds! I'm however against making the boring or slow car look or sound like it's faster than everyone knows it is.

If it was possible to bolt a 2GR into the engine bay of Prius then mine would be painted green!

Just as I thought  man I'm smart

1GoZoom 04-11-2011 02:18 AM

Non-Si Honda Civic
SRT4 (been there, hated it)
Eclipses regardless of variant (looks horrid)
95-up Dodge Vehicles (except Jeep and SRT10s)
Cavalier
Any fwd Toyota
Most SUVs
Most pickups (minus the SRT Ram, Lightning, and Raptor)
Older Chevy/Ford muscle cars (I love old Mopars)
R35 GT-R (computer on wheels=lame)

Suspension mods made my FWD Mazda6S a track monster. It was great before (best handling fwd car 04-07) but sways and springs make it amazing. It has literally no understeer at all.

If I could build a quality Prius into something exciting, I would totally rock it. I love the looks and the fact it has a great Coefficient of drag. I really like the new Honda CR-Z as a possible DD a few years down the road when they launch an SI version.

OldSkoolToys 04-11-2011 02:31 AM

I was speaking from a 'working on it to fix shit' perspective. I've heard BMW's are the exception to the rule, but I've worked on a few Audi's and I swear to everything that is holy that working on those car's are just....ugh, never again.

As far as tuning? Anything FWD.:bellyroll:

NESW20 04-11-2011 02:39 AM

audi, vw, and mercedes seem to be a bigger PITA, but BMWs really aren't bad to work on at all.

Ha, never would have thought to find people here who can respect the Prius for it's body :bonk:.

For me I wouldn't touch any car with rust, any American car made after 1973, a car w/out potential or a car that is already fixed up.

By Mitsubishi Eclipse I'm assuming you are talking about the bloated heavy ass NA FWD 3rd and 4th generations right. I can see the hate for the all to ubiquitous riced out fast and furious second gen models too but,

The Turbo AWD 1st gen Mitsu Eclipse/Eagle Talon/Plymouth Lasers were the sh!t.

It went all down hill after that though.

C-Bone 04-11-2011 07:36 PM

Plymouth lasers huh? Never heard that but the first 2 ya, interesting

Yeah, a lot know of Mitsu Eclipse & Eagle Talon... but most ppl don't know bout Plymouth Laser. Either way, they all sucked IMO

back to the topic
Hm... here's my lists for the cars that I don't wanna work on (physically).
  • '00 plus Audi's
  • Dodge/Plymouth Neon
  • New BMW (80's~mid 90's are okay)
  • Mitsu/Eagle/Plymouth Ecl/Tal/Las
& lists of the cars that I don't even think bout tuning (which includes: suspension/brake, engine & etc).
  • Civic/Accord (nothing against Civic/Accord, just prefer to be stock)
  • New Sentra (again, same with Civic/Accord)
  • & some of luxury cars... like some Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, BMW, Mercedes Benz (cuz they look nice stock).

I guess it's up to me to defend myself so I'll put it lightly. Granted the car isn't dressed up in bling or aftermarket body kits I don't really care what the sheet metal looks like granted it's got some serious hardware underneath.

Obviously in stock form the Prius doesn't, but imagine if you could easily bolt on an engine and transmission with 268hp. I think it would be a riot watching a Prius dust a Mazdaspeed 3 from a stop light or drag tree.

You know what? I'm actually glad I own this particular Corolla. It's taught me to look past sheet metal and that even a boring dreary A-B fwd car can be turned into something marginally fun with a couple of parts (;some big) from the bin and some good engineering...

sorry man in my list DSM  but if you dig them thats for you not for me and looks like ichi is also not liking them. for the record I dont hate american, korean or euro, mitsubishi, scion or any other name brand, its just for me some cars are for point A to point B and others are apex to apex thats all.

my friends don't like how I tune cars, they call me no grey area cuz, for me if I modify a car it better be full track or nothing at all, for me if I put money, time and research it better not just go 0-60mph or red light green light kill kill or go and show BS. I like to hear that 9,200rpm sing, feel that 4 piston caliper bit and catch that rear end slid. thats how I want my car, if your definition of a monster is a fwd mazda 6 thats on you, this is what makes us different from each other, soon when this FT86 is out and everyone has one you can pick out who are the serious tuners or just hard parker.

:word:

I'd tune a Lada if I had a good reason to.

Dimman 04-12-2011 01:32 AM

Does the anti-German vibe come from their early love of mechanical fuel injection?

Mechanical fuel injection sounds scary...

Ryephile 04-12-2011 10:43 AM

I'm curious about the anti-German sentiments here too. Perhaps it's just because this is a Japanese car forum and people just want to be patriotic towards the cars' nationality? I've worked on a lot of German cars over the years and other than their fetish for special tools and technology-for-the-sake-of-technology they're no different/harder to work on than other nationalities.

Regarding the thread title; I think the only cars I won't touch are rusted ones. Rust makes working on cars a billion times tougher than fresh & clean.

RRnold 04-12-2011 02:18 PM

Can't speak for all but the problems on my buddies Audi A4 and M3 were electrical. The passenger window would get stuck rolling up, dash lights flickering, left tail light would consistantly go out etc.

Allch Chcar 04-12-2011 03:10 PM

Exage, why did you quote me and then defend yourself? I wasn't trying to say anything negative about you or 1GoZoom.

Exage 04-12-2011 08:44 PM

Then I mistook your comment for being a negative poke at 1GoZooms' following comment in reference to my original (as both were quoted by you), even if you didn't mean it that way. To each his own I guess.

I'm sure mazda 6 is a good car, so you have the 2.3liter turbo awd one right?

4agze 04-15-2011 09:31 PM

o yeah forgot to add I wont touch any toaster looking car, not even a super hot girl asked me to

Macavely 04-15-2011 09:44 PM

If it has at least 2 wheels I will work on it... I love cars.. I can find something enjoyable about any car.. Plus I find it more fun to work on cars others would not touch...

but I would never work on a gas powered RC car again.. last one I did kind of blow up ..
