FRS fatal crash on HWY9 friday

A 16 year old was killed when he lost control of his FRS going down hwy 9 Friday afternoon. My wife works with his mother. He went off the road near Saratoga Springs. They estimate his speed at 50 to 70 mph. Two 17 year olds were also in the car and survived.

RIP. Please say a prayer for the family that just lost a child.

Please know your limits and stay well within them on the street.

Unfortunate but what the hell is a 16 year old doing in a FR-S?

Clipdat 11-16-2016 03:27 PM

Spare the rod, spoil the child?

A nice reminder to not cross over double yellow center lines on blind corners.

Wouldn't be my choice of car for a new driver either.

Sad story, any reason how/why he lost control?

Clipdat 11-16-2016 03:41 PM

I'm guessing it's because he was going 50-70mph down hw9 with the nannies off.

My youngest son (now 20) drove mine when he was 16. Even took has driver's test in it. Parallel parked it like a boss (of course he learned to parallel park in our Suburban so that was a piece of cake).

Accidents happen. There have been folks a lot older and experienced than this 16 year old that have lost their lives in a Prius. Let's not pile on the to family's grief with forum guilt.

My guess would be lack of experience and trying to show off. 16 years old.

Very unfortunate story... The story linked above also had a link to a more detailed story about the young man who was killed. Sounds like he had a promising future and was a good kid, regardless of the circumstances in how he died.

RIP Justin. I hope everyone else drives safe out there.

According to his friends he was going too fast especially on Highway 9. Not the road you want to test your limits and push the car with little driving experience. Doesn't seem like an accident more like a mistake that cost him the ultimate price.

RIP Justin. I hope everyone else drives safe out there.

"A promising future was cut short Friday around 3:20 p.m. when the Scion FRS Justin was driving veered off southbound Highway 9 in Saratoga, plummeted down an embankment, hit a tree and burst into flames."
"They estimated his speed at 50 to 70 mph, said Officer Ross Lee. The speed limit on Highway 9 between Skyline Boulevard and Saratoga is 30 mph."

Downhill 50-70mph....RIP...
