For all the people that live in Brooklyn, does anyone know if they have cameras on 66th street between 7th and 8th avenue 11220. My car got hit while parked and the driver just fled with no note.

oh shit did it ever get hit :o

Sorry to hear, hopefully your insurance will take good care of you.

(on a side note time for some carbon fiber mirrors)

They probably won't capture anything at night if he is parallel parked in a poorly lit Crooklyn.

The license plate is illuminated so lighting has nothing to do with it. If the camera couldn't see it, that would be due to the car parked in front and/or in back blocking the view of the plate.

If your headlights are not on and pointing at the license plate then the camera won't be able to capture it at night. And I doubt the other car would have bright LED tag lights.

Why not? The plate should still have tag lights illuminating it and the picture only has to be of sufficient quality to blow up in photoshop or paint to get the tag. I think I could get a picture of that sort of quality at night with my cell phone without tweaking the settings at all but maybe I'm wrong. Now you've got me curious.

Dash cam quality is not all that great especially at night. At night it depends on your headlights and street lights. If the car is in motion that hits him parked then it will just be a dark blur. Blowing it up in photoshop won't be of any help.

But if he gets footage of his car being hit then at least he has evidence to show to his insurance company.
