JPM Coachworks Alcantara Prototypes

I wanted to take this opportunity to display and open discussion on some new products from JPM Coachworks.

Disclaimer: I volunteered to help in JPM Coachworks' product development for our cars and am not a JPM employee.

First off, I would like to say that Alex and Joe, Co-founders of JPM, are great guys and we, as a community, are lucky to have a company like JPM working to bring to market high quality products for our platform.

Now onto a summary of the prototypes I have installed on my BRZ:

JPM uses only genuine alcantara and leather and high end automotive thread. In addition, the products are designed to have the fit and finish of OEM. To accomplish this, items such as shifter and e-brake boots, are reverse engineered, modeled in CAD, Cut out using percise automated equipment, and integrated with OEM panels to produce a product that has a seamless install.

All made in the USA!!

As you can see, my car is an automatic. JPM will be producing shifter boots for both AT and MT models. This is something they are excited about offering our community as they have mainly released MT boots only on other platforms.

Keep in mind these boots are prototypes and are not JPM's final design. Future planned improvements include: sourcing the actual automotive grade red died thread to perfectly color match the stitching on other interior components as well as, correcting the stitch width to match the e-brake. The later improvement requires that JPM purchase an entirely new industrial sewing machine to match the stitch pattern widths on the BRZ/FRS/GT86. This investment alone shows the commitment of JPM Coachworks to this platform and our enthusiast community. :respekt:

I am completely stoked about the prototypes! These pieces greatly improve the look of the car, bringing a high end aesthetic to the interior. In addition to the boots, Alex and Joe have plans to design and release sun visors, cluster hoods, knee pads, speaker panels, and even genuine carbon fiber interior panels.

I have had an outstanding experience being the guinea pig for our community. I hope this review has been thorough and informative and generates interest in these great products! :party0030:

If I forgot to mention something, I will be sure to follow up later.

This is promising since that leatherette boot cover and shift cover look very thin and could easily puncture. You know how much they will charge for it?

BugeyedWagon 07-11-2012 02:37 AM

I do not know any pricing to share at this time. Alex is active on this forum, I am sure he'll pipe in on that subject when they get more things finalized with the production design.

This is quite exciting! Means we can match those nicer JDM interiors :) When will it be available?

Vracer111 07-11-2012 04:32 AM

Nice! This is about the only Interior upgrade I want to do on my FR-S...the stock material is just so out of place, thin, and the emergency brake stretches it so tight I think it's going to rip it apart... The JPM Coachworks looks like a much better fit, can't wait!

It is something I did myself. I ordered the button from RHDjapan.com and have had to do some wiring to make it work on my USDM car. I dont believe the Red Sti button I have was designed for the BRZ specifically, so Subaru may come out with one that is a simple plug in play later on.

You can follow my progress on the button here:

Anyhow, Its still a work in progress, but it is currently functional. I want to keep this thread on topic about the JPM products, but thanks for the questions. I will probably do a diy write up when I am happy the solution I come up with is worth sharing with everyone.

I contemplated making a thread, but saw this already existed, so I'll put my JPM goodies in here. :)

Here's a teaser of a pic I took yesterday after we installed it in my car. It's the cluster hood:

They also installed a 6MT shift boot, but I haven't taken a pic of that yet. As soon as I snap a pic or three, I'll post it here.

Alex took a ton of pics yesterday, so I'll bug him about them and I'll get them posted up.

Nice!

Spaceywilly 07-11-2012 02:57 PM

are they going to do padded knee pads?

BugeyedWagon 07-11-2012 03:01 PM

I know they are working on knee pads wrapped in alcantara with the JDM-like red stiching. Whether or not they will have additional padding, I am not aware.

I'm sure when Alex has the opportunity to post, he will be able to confirm more details. The guys at JPM are extremely busy right now.

Wow sweet stuff. Any plans to maybe wrap the silver panels in front of the passenger and around the stereo? Maybe something in the doors to really finish it off? Jpm makes some awesome stuff!

mechaghost 07-11-2012 04:49 PM

Alcantara-ize the BRZ booyah!

When I met with them a couple of weeks ago, they mentioned in passing they might look at that but thought the tolerances on the pieces were too tight to be able to wrap them. Also, there may be issues with the air bags as well.
