No, you cant use a precut piece to do the whole tail light. I wrapped the WHOLE light with a sheet of transparent red vinyl. I think it looks terrible with only a portion of it red. Personal preference.

No need for a video, the turn signals match the brake lights. Red.

Was this the stuff you got, and how big of a sheet did you need to cover both tails?

Yes, them. they are perfect. This is how they should have done it for the factory. I may just invest the $800+ in a set of these once I get my car if I really dont like the tail lights. Im sure I could sell them if i ever wanted to part with them.

Those are the same exact things as what comes from the factory. They are just painted and redistributed so if you have access to a paint shop, that will be a much less expensive option.

I figured as much given the price. You're right, any paint shop could probably do this but im not sure of any in my area that d a lot of this stuff, thus id be worried about condensation etc.

boredom.is.me 07-16-2012 03:34 AM

Nope - They are painted on the exterior since the tail lights are fused shut.

Turbowned 07-16-2012 12:49 PM

So are the headlights, but that hasn't stopped people from taking theirs apart and painting them. You wouldn't be able to duplicate the above without taking them apart. If you tried to mask off the turn signal area they'd come out looking like $#!t.

boredom.is.me 07-16-2012 01:04 PM

No, the headlights are not fused together. The tails are pretty much welded together. The heads are glued together (with silicone I think). That glue becomes soft when baked at a high enough temperature. The clear lens pops right off after.

And what do you you can't achieve the same results by masking? Is masking not what they use on very fine paint jobs? What makes this different from any other paint?
