2017 BRZ stock power numbers
 
I got my stock 2017 BRZ on the dyno earlier this week. Here is the power it made and I also did a quick comparison to my 2013 Scion FRS when it was stock.

Basically, my stock 2017 BRZ made about 5hp and 4lb.ft of torque more than my stock 2013 FRS did. Graphs are almost the same.

I always wonder what the real hp would be if air was being passed into the car from a speed of like 70mph. Would it have more hp/torque? I would think so right? Vs just sitting there in 0 air pressure. I also wonder if this number would be more variable for various cars and intake set-ups. There was a porche 928s i tihnk it was, the S option had a huge huge air dam in front of the car that certainly killed the rest of the porches in its model for that year, and that was because of air being pushed in.

I doubt there would be any difference with air being forced into the grill of the car, maybe at extreme velocity's. The intake manifold is still going to see 0 vacuum at max, or no positive pressure. But, I am not tuning or dyno scientist so I could be wrong :)

I was kind of hoping they would go after the dip in the refresh with the intake manifold, but I guess they didn't. Nothing the aftermarket can't fix easily. :)

You are correct.
Ram air systems can take a very small advantage of the air velocity but the overall effect is minimal. The intake is sucking air in as fast as it can and the draw velocity is usually well above the incoming air anyway so no matter how fast the air is moving it isn't adding to the existing speed. The air hitting the front of the car has velocity but not pressure and that is what you need if trying to gain HP.


Unless of course you are the owner of a certain 221HP car with a home made fiberglass "ram air" taped onto the front of your intake then it makes a massive difference.

Me too. It is not as noticeable with the new gearing, however.

Good news though, I have been beta testing new Openflash tunes and they are able to tune out the torque dip almost completely on a bone stock car. It already feels almost as good/quick as my FRS did with bolt-on-s and being dyno tuned.

They can't.

"An UEL header (no cat) and tune fixes the dip!" gives all the information you need.

Subaru is being held back by emissions and MPG standards mandated by governments worldwide. The dip is a negative realization of this shit.

If this engine was tuned and engineered to even 2006 standards, it would probably make 30+hp at the crank.

This.The torque dip is intentional, and it is in many cars now because of emissions and mpg. The twins get economy car mpg and that really helps the cafe numbers for both companies.

I like the raised spoiler on the new car compared to my old FRS. The drive is mostly the the same from a chassis/steering feel point of view.

I just realized the maximum torque sheet says it was acquired at 2800rpm, which was right on initial throttle tip in :lol:

That should really show around 6300rpm for max torque, as that is the reality.

most N/A cars are 5200+ rpm for max torque, especially non-under-square ones.
