Within break-in period, but long road trip?
 

Got a long road trip ahead, and while I don't want to start a debate about whether break-in period is to be respected or not, I would like some advice about how to drive as I have a ~550km drive (each way) ahead that's nearly all highway driving.

I will have my pets in the back so unfortunately cannot dally and make a day of it on the smaller roads, it's gonna be all highway speeds just to get there as quickly as possible.

Any tips/advice? Not even sure if I should really care too much but the owners manual is so sternly worded :(

The first 550 miles I put on my car was a road trip back home from the dealer.

Don't use cruise control, modulate the throttle so you're not in one RPM band and you'll be fine.

Very the revs a much as possible.
When you're not inconveniencing anyone else, do soft and/or medium pulls from 50-80 and let the revs fall back to 50 (in gear not braking).
Try to stay under 4000rpm at least for the first 500miles. Stay under 5000rpm until 1000miles.

Do not use cruse control.

These where the steps I took during a trip I took in my WRX when it had 400miles on it.

The first 2100 miles of my car were a road trip. Do not ever use the cruise control. This will be the biggest thing. Vary speeds and gears. The goal is to vary engine load and rpm as frequently as possible. Stop for gas frequently. Every half tank at the latest. This will help vary rpm and load more than if you were to wait.

The last 400 of my first 1000 miles was a road trip, and I basically followed all the advice above. It should not be a problem. Like everyone said, biggest thing is not to use cruise control. That combined with more frequent stops will probably be enough to make sure the RPMs are varied.

Go back and forth between 5th gear and 6th gear every 10-15 minutes. Don't use cruise. Go the speed limit ar a few mph under for awhile, then go over by 5-10 mph to vary the rpm. Take back roads when possible, even if just for 10-20 miles.

I drove mine 150 miles home from the dealership, all interstates.

Seemed to be fine for me. The only thing I did was make sure to not let it sit in sixth for hours at a time. Vary your speed, use fifth and fourth once in a while, etc.

I ended up doing this, now at 1200km's, can't wait to be done with the next 400km's so I don't have to be as careful ;)
