Looking to buy and have a question
Looking to buy either a 2016 Limited or 2017 Premium or Limited.
I have driven both and prefer the torque or at least the perceived torque gain due to the revised rear end. I like the seats of the limited but not sure I want to swing the additional money for the 2017 Limited. I really do like the new cluster on the 2017 Limited however. I know there are very few of them out there right now but does anyone know if at a later time the limited cluster could be installed in the premium and have it work as it should. Coming from VW almost all their cars can be upfitted pretty easily. |
Spend as much money as you can and get what you want
|
The 2017 cluster will physically fit in 2016 and earlier, but it will not work right. The earlier cars just don't have the same sensors and signals to provide that information. Whether it will fit into a 2017 premium, I don't know.
Regarding limited vs premium vs 2016 limited, I'll tell you my wife's philosophy on buying expensive things like cars. You typically only buy something that costs tens of thousands of dollars about once every five or more years. Buy what you know you'll be happy with. You like the new rear end and the seats and the cluster from the 2017 limited even though it's another thousand or two? Then get it. Or buy the premium and kick yourself every day because you don't have the alcantara seats and automatic climate control, etc... For reference, I have a limited. I bought it over the premium for just that reason. |
A guy on this forum got almost, well close to, $3000. off the MSRP of a 2017 BRZ. Just takes lots of research and pitting one dealer against another to get the price you need.
Spend the money now to get the exact model and color which suits you best. Most people like all the bells and whistles of the Limited...well, not for me. I want the basics and have no use for auto climate controls or push button start. I am not sure about buttons on the steering wheel. I guess the premium has them on both sides, yet the right hand ones are dummies. Limited has a use for the right hand buttons. Neither would be my cup of tea, but that's what you get with a 17 MY. Wish the performance package were available on the premium, yet it is not. There lies a big mistake from the manufacturer. There are those of us who just want a car with all the mechanicals for a best driving experience, we'd even do without a radio if that was a delete option. |

If you can afford it, buy the '17 with the big package. If you can't afford it chances are you wont be able to afford or justify all the changes later.
Just like all the guys with an FRS who thought they were smart buying the climate control from BRZ guys. |

If you can get the deal for a 2017, I would. For me, it was an easy decision to go Limited. The creature comforts and design differences was enough to make me bite. And I keep my cars forever. I don't regret it my decision one bit. GL! |
I also went with the Limited and Performance Pack. I know I wont be buying another car for a few years at minimum so I dont want to regret my nearly $30k purchase over 1 or 2 grand. Hell, I put a thousand down for the deposit and that practically covered the PP.
Definitely shop around too. At first, local dealers wouldnt touch any discount more than a few hundred dollars. After going to one about 100 miles away, I got 2,000 off! |
I get what you guys are saying - I tend to keep cars a very long time. My current car will be the shortest I have ever owned a car and that will be 7 years by the time I make a deal. The last car was 11 years.
I also like to tinker so I am not afraid to do mods and make them work especially when they are options not available in this country... That said what I am asking is available for a few dollars more. I am working a deal with a dealer 2017 Limited in WR Blue manual transmission for $28 out the door. Dealer is few hours away and dealer is being what I think is a bit cagey about getting all the numbers and a vin on the same "sheet" of paper so I won't proceed until that happens I may be able to do a little better than that I think - but not sure Found a '17 86 which I guess is basically a premium for about $26500 out the door and I am certain I have more wiggle room there |
That seems like a good deal to me! I paid a hair over 30 OTD for a 17 Limited 6 speed with PP. located in Arizona with I think a 7.8% tax if that matters.
