The new 2015 (:

Hello everyone, my name is Nick and i recently just purchased a 2015 Subaru BRZ Limited for roughly 21,000 with about 17k miles on the thing. So far, so good, i am absolutely loving the car. I had a 2006 BMW 325i but it was just too unreliable. I figured i would get rid of the thing before the trans was gonna go so i went to a dealer and had the payments be rolled over to the brz.

Anyways, i really just wanted to have a little guidance to this car because this is my very first Subaru and i deff do not want to mess up the car. My plans were to just get some tint on it first and then maybe consider a exhaust but i have to find out first if that would void my warranty with the dealership and subaru. Does anybody recommend anything in particular to keep an eye out for on this brz? Parts-wise or when things start to wear, doesnt matter, i would just love to have a general idea of things to look out for.

Ive had this car about 4 days now and im almost 100% perfect on the clutch, its grabs pretty high for me. But, is there a time frame of when i should replace my clutch, or can i just run and beat it down till its done to replace?

Thanks for the help in advance! (:

Congratulations! Just wanted to quickly say drive the car for a while before considering mods and base your mods on what you find lacking. Lot of people complain about the power and its true ... in a straight line. I've only changed wheels and tyres so far.

Once you hit the canyons and twisty back roads, the car feels very composed and tight - honestly like its on rails. I just came back from a cruise today, road was turn after turn and the car just felt so tight in the corners.

Anyway, enjoy your car!

Hello minipudd5 and welcome to BR-Z ownership and to ...... The Forum .....

As far as maintenance, just follow the maintenance schedule in the owners manual and always put in premium gasoline.

As far as the clutch ....... as they say in the old country ...... if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Some folks can burn up a clutch in 10,000 miles ...... others can make them last for a couple hundred thousand miles.

Some relatively common problems that may come up, is a wearing out of the throw out bearing (it will howl at you if it's not happy); some oil seepage at the bottom of the cam chain cover (you can usually see it); the cam plate cover (near the rear of the passenger side of the block) may start seeping.

Other than that, if you drive the car like it was designed to be driven (spirited driving in the twisties), it should serve you well.

IMHO, most people that are having major problems have been "messen" with the engine (E-85 fuel/tunes/forced induction/drastic suspension mods).

But, hey ....... I ain't no fun ...... ;)

Welcome have fun and don't worry about it lol 17k on this car and still no mods on it. You probably won't see an issue anytime soon lol 😂 assuming the cars still good condition and you don't drive recklessly

Keep an eye on the throwout bearing wear in your clutch assembly, those tend to go out with rough driving.

Changing the gearbox and diff fluid when necessary is recommended.

My car likes early oil changes, yours might too. Mine's usually turning dark brown by 4000 miles.

Keep an eye on tire pressure. These low profile tires can sometimes squeeze a little air out every time you go over a bump. Less tire pressure equals the car wobbling through corners.

The gps radio head unit uses an SD card to reprogram it. Don't lose this card because the radio won't operate without it after a battery reset.

There have been some issues of blocked oil passages on some builds from whatever sealant subaru used at the factory. It's not widespread but there are some people who have had broken engines due to it. I wouldn't worry about it though, but if something does happen to your engine for no apparent reason, this could be a culprit.

You will love this car. I came down from a BMW 335i and never miss it haha.

Seems like you got a nice mindset. Tint was my first mod also...in fact I did it the very next day haha.

Catback exhaust/Axel Back exhaust won't void your warranty unless it has to do with the exhaust.

Other than that....just enjoy the car and really appreciate what it comes with in stock form. Afterwards you can begin to research and see if you would like certain things changed.

Welcome to the forum! FYI cat back exhaust is bolt on & won't void warranty as long as you keep stock header. That's what I was told by my dealership customer service writer. Check out the exhaust forum. If you can meet up with your local Scion FRS club then you can see & hear different exhaust systems. Just my 2 cents

Clutch does grab (engage) quite high on the pedal.

This is normal for this car.

I drove a used one...noticed that right away. Months later I bought a new one...grabs same as the used one I drove.

Personal experience: I own a 2015 FRS, manual trans car. Bought it new, now two years later has almost 39,000 miles. First car I've ever had which has had no problems so far. Absolutely nothing wrong to take it to the dealership under warranty so far.

Congratulations...you've purchased a car designed in Japan, made in Japan...nothing beats that for reliability.

Not sure about 2015, but earlier models had issue with condensation in taillights and weatherstripping on the doors.

That was a 2013 issue which has long been solved :)
