JDM LED solar night signals

I was walking down the streets of Tokyo and noticed these cool blue LED lights flashing in the dash of some cars.

I bought the real deal http://www.carmate.co.jp/products/detail/5594/SQ93/

Then noticed Chinese knockoffs are cheaper. Have you guys seen other cheaper alternatives?

I found a good English translation:
Car Mate Night Signal, Compact Blue LED

This solar-powered LED flasher serves as both a decorative piece and a visual (imitation) theft deterrent. No installation is required for this all-in one, dash-mountable unit that automatically illuminates in the dark and reverts charging mode when sunlight is detected. Choose from two flashing modes and rely on this night flasher to shut off for safety when it detects motion vibration.
Built-in solar-powered battery
All-in-one compact unit
Deactivates upon detection of the vibration of a moving car
Choose from 2 flashing patterns

Nice to provide illumination for people looking for things left in your car.

I was having difficulty understanding the point of this, until I clicked the link to the one on Amazon and read this:

"6 threats LED, night from outside can see intimidation LED, can play an effective deterrent. A bright light from six LED."

Oh, now I get it. If I see those lights, I'll be intimidated by them and run away.

I would be afraid of coming out and finding my car covered in cats!

For theft protection, buy a anti-theft system with a camera that will record the thief. If they want your stuff bad enough, a blue light won't stop them.

I think the blue LED is just another thing to steal if they can't find anything better to swipe. Might work in Japan but any subhuman in the US that steals won't give a flashing blue LED a second thought.

True story:

When I lived in New Orleans, I installed a motion-activated security light in my garage to deter would-be thieves.

Someone stole the security light.
