Aftermarket third brake light replacement?

Has anyone found a good replacement for the "floating" third brake light that most of us loathe? :)

The problem is that it's pretty much part of the package tray. If you want to remove it, you have to pull out the whole tray and then drill out the fused plastic that's holding it to the tray. It's not a simple replacement unfortunately.

It may not exactly be "legal" but I'm planning on removing it completely and replacing the rear deck with an all new piece that gets rid of the baby seat tie-downs as well. I want to really clean it up. This will be in conjunction with the "rear fog reflector-to-brake light" mod I'll be doing this weekend.

The easy way is cutting off the current brake light, wrapping the tray in carpet, and running an LED strip at the top of the window a la Continental GT.

Using the lower not-a-rear-fog-light doesnt sound like a good idea since its so low people may not be able to see it clearly when you do hit the brakes.

how did you get that last brake light to work?

I definitely agree with you. That's why it is a rear fog light and not a 3rd brake light (HIGH MOUNT brake light). The 3rd brake light is designed for people in taller trucks with long hoods to be able to see your brake lights. so if you move it to the bottom with out a high mount this may not be so good of an idea if someone rear ends you. Just my thoughts.

Hate to awaken a dead thread, but any new on this? Not liking the way my half assed custom job is looking. Time for a change.

Well if you figure out a new way to place the brake light PWJDM makes a nice looking carbon fiber rear shelf.

Funny you mention that, because that's exactly why I've been looking for new options again. That deck is beautiful!

yeah they make one that incorporates the brake light, but i am skeptical of it because I think it will rattle against the glass.

That's the main reason I took the stock one off. My parcel tray looks like that CF one (Type I) but just carpet.

Beat sonic is working on an led kit that will work with their roof spoiler, that's my plan and I really wish I hadn't seen that passwordjdm one but i will probably just send mine to JPM.
