I absolutely love my MT, but there are times (mainly while I'm sitting in traffic during my daily commute), especially after seeing all the reviews, that I kinda wish I'd gotten the AT instead.

Like the 3 different shift modes. You really can feel the difference between them.

I'm enjoying my AT. Less noise at highway cruising speeds, plenty of power if you leave it in M and aren't afraid to stay in 5-7k range.

So you shift up to upshift and down to downshift? Man i wish it was like bmw the opposite way. Is the left paddle shifter downshift?

I agree I love my MT cause I could really control the engine! but there are times were I want the paddle shifting and the different modes for the car...

The AT is begging for a shorter differential ratio. Gears 5 and 6 are much taller than the manual's ratios right?

Would love to read a review of an AT diff swap that would match MT/AT 6th gear RPMs @70mph, +-

This is what I'm waiting for as well. I love my AT but I'm very curious how it would stack up against the MT without the gearing difference.

I'm very happy that I chose AT. And the fact that it gets quicker from 45 to 60 - just tells you that direct 4th gear (vs direct 5th gear in MT) was the right call on engineering side.

AT gear ratios + diff, makes it very good driving experience. It will loose MT from 0 to 60, but will win if cars moving at least 20 mph. So, call it a tie :)

AT is the way to go for 90% of the people with traffic now a days, plus there isn't much difference.

The automatic is pretty nice I love mine. You just have to know when the car will let you downshift so at the track or autocross you are not fighting it. First autox out with it we were fighting downshifts. After the event I did some testing. 1st goes to about 35mph 2nd to 63 or 64. However you can't downshift back into first till 33 because the computer won't let you shift back into redline. Another thing launching the car. With stock tires I can put the foot into the brake and gas and the rear tires will break loose. With sticky hankook rs3s it depends on the surface. Black top no problem tires cold no problem. Tires warmed up on concrete or asphalt I have not been able to launch it that well. More testing this weekend at autocross.

I read that review, and based on my drive in an auto-equipped FR-S, I agree it's an excellent transmission that fits the car extremely well. I've never enjoyed an auto that much. No way would I get one -- heck, even our freakin' minivan has a manual -- but in this case it's a legitimate choice even for serious enthusiasts IMO.
