Bringing home parts from Japan
 

What determines what you can and can't bring home for personal use? Price cut off? Air freshener versus LED DRL versus putting a set of coilovers in your checked luggage?

Not sure, but if it helps I brought a steering wheel and my defi gauges in my carry on.

Normally, you must declare, at customs, anything over $450.00 in value- that also means several items adding up to that amount.

You may or may not have to pay duty on anything over $450.00, but you do have to declare it on arrival.

If you mean bring home in luggage, probably size and weight. And Airbags will be a no go on an airplane. No other parts are prohibited specifically afaik. You probably have to declare expensive parts but I don't see a problem otherwise

You can buy anything you want, but if you buy it in Japan you are subject to consumption tax, which is around 8%. The rest is how much you can bring back luggage-wise.

You want to check coilovers? Sure, just don't forget luggage and fees.

Depends on OP and their experience with traveling. I have no problems carrying personal goods that I bought into the US, as long as I declare it properly (undervalued). Having Global Entry helps too, because there are no forms to fill out.

With the exchange rate today, it's really not that big of a price difference.

All made in US and some are not even authorized.


Use incognito mode if you want to search without your own browsing history affecting the results.
