How to hack a BMW and steal it in 3 minutes

Interesting article about how to a BMW with keyless entry/start can be stolen in under 3 minutes with the right tools. Of course, that's even more true for a car with a standard key, but just shows where there is a will and a devious mind, there is a way.

Every security system installer has always said to me: "If someone really wants your car they will find a way to get it".

I've heard of thieves renting flat bed tow trucks, following people for days until that one moment they just -run in really quickly- to a store and don't lock up. There are things you can do to make it harder for average guys, but a good car thief will always get their car.

"With the right tools" Just to point out how laughable this "3 minutes" thing is, here's what you have to fear:

A customer had to have their car towed from our parking lot and one of these showed up. The driver pulled in, paused just long enough to glance out his window to verify the car and then had it on the stinger and on the other side of the parking lot in seconds. If he didn't stop to properly secure the car, he could have been in the lot and out with the car in less than 30 seconds.

And his truck didn't make a noise. Repo TV shows are over-dramatized.

No serious thief is going to mess around with laptops and frequency scanners. They can snatch your car between one glance and the next.

Car in 1st gear and e-brake?

Seriously, does lo-jack help?

That truck will drag your car regardless.

And there are ways to defeat Lo-jack.

Ultimately, if a "professional" thief wants your car, it's gone. That's what insurance is for. All you can do is make it as difficult as possible for the small-time thieves and joy riders.

Well I mean someone HAS to be smart enough to notice that a sports car isn't supposed to be dragging and screeching tires if it's being towed..

As for professional's, this would be my attempt

Thanks Dadhawk, I think i'm going to go "buy" a BMW tonight:D

But seriously, that sucks for BMW owners. I'd be pissed that someone could break my window, reach in my car, and the alarm not go off.

Excuse me while I run off to pen legislation that legalizes booby-trapping personal automobiles.
