Deep bumper damage?

Hey guys. Sadly the day after I started getting quotes from shops for a clear bra, I damaged my front bumper pretty badly. I just wanted to ask you more experienced folks how I should go about this damage (without repainting preferred) to make it less obvious without being 100% perfect. Can I get some kind of filler and touch it up?

It is a deep scratch and some bad nicks, so will probably have to go to a shop, just can't think of what they can do since all the paint/primer is already gone. Plus is it still possible to get a clear bra over these damages?
What kind of rock cuts paint like a knife -.-

Smooth it out slap some touch up on it and get your bra. You will know it is there but most other people will never even spot it. The bra of course would not have stopped that and looks pretty bad when it get torn up.

Probably debris not a rock. There is all sorts of crap on the roads that goes airborne in a hurry when a wheel kicks it up. I have been hit by a flying taillight assembly, a high velocity section of brake line and a direction changing homing lower control arm. Also several dozen smaller items that may have been rocks but were probably nuts and bolts.

Yep, clean the area with alcohol to remove the wax, fill the nicks with touch up paint.

@Tcoat yea at this point I will be happy if I can just make it smoothed out again and not look like it's missing a chunk. When you say smooth, you do mean with body filler right? because there's no way it can be smooth without it since it's so deep. Btw, would you have any insight on how I would deal/smooth out the part around the cut where the paint is flaking off?

Looks that paint quality in the new cars is the same ...

I think what ol @Tcoat is meaning is to taper the edges of the gash with a dermal tool or an exacto knife.

You may try filling in the gash with body filler or multiple layers of touch up paint ..... depending on the depth of the gash.

Yep. Just tape off close to the slit so you don't damage a larger area. Trim off the raised sections with a sharp blade. Fill with touch up paint until flush (may take a few layers) being carful to not go past the sides of the repair. If you have loose paint on the sides buy one of these:

Ouch. I know the feeling man, it sucks.

With touch up paint only, I think it will have minor imperfections with the clear bra over it. The nicks need to be smoothed out and filled so the surface is flat for the clear bra to lay down.

Best approach I think is to get the bumper nicks smoothed/filled and whole bumper repainted, then clear bra'd over.

Or you can just leave it as is. Battle scars.

Haha yeah I will try to fill it. There's no way I can justify I have a repainted bumper just for a few scratches..specially only owning the car for less than 2 months

I went to a few body shops over the weekend and no one is willing to repair such a small damage for me unless I want to repaint. After I explained to them I want to fill with body filler before touchup to make it look 70%. But they all told me to make sure I don't do that because I would make it look worst because there's no way the filler will not also go on the sirrounding, which will then require sanding a big spot. Is what they're saying true? Don't know what to do now lol..didn't want to try and mess up halfway through the process. Anyone with first hand experience?😭

Unfortunate incident for you. I feel your pain. My car goes into the auto paint shop next week to get my trunk lid repainted. I have a 3 foot scratch mark from some fuktard that keyed my car. If you do your car on your own and it gets messed up then just take it to get repainted. Or live with it if you can. Just my 2 cents! ;)

:slap: ...... have you even read then above posts by @humfrz and @Tcoat ....... ??

If you don't have the expertise, then ask your wife or GF to do the touch up painting. If they can do their toe nails, the minor scars on your car will be a piece of cake for them.

THEN, if anyone comments on the job, you have someone else to blame.

Sheeeesh .......

All you need is a thick needle/toothpick/paper clip and touch up paint to fix that.

Step 1: Clean the surface of the car.

Step 2: Take the needle and dip it in the touch up paint, and allow light drops of paint to fall into the scarred area. It'll self level once you've used enough paint.

Step 3: Realize that it's never going to look perfect in your eyes without repainting the entire bumper.

A clear bra would have probably ate the damage caused by that impact. They're crazy durable.
