swirl marks

I just got to work and had the sun hitting the car at an angle where I noticed some swirl marks on the car.

I washed it once and did a quick wax with a two bucket system a few weeks ago. I probably wasn't as thorough or meticulous as I should have been as it was my first time washing/drying.

What should/can I do to cover up or prevent further swirl marks from occuring the next time I wash my car? I still want to get it opti-coated but no luck finding anybody yet in nyc. :sigh:

In Norwood nj, Phil at detailersdomain.com does amazing detail work with cars. And he does opticoat too. (website also has a ton of great products) from NYC it's a short drive less then half an hour. He posts a lot of his work on other forums.

Not sure about the swirl marks besides polishing and buffing it out with a swirl and haze remover and just being extra careful next time and to only use quality products

I've spent a lot of money at detailers domain, so assuming the work is as good as the customer service, definitely look them up.

I spoke to Philr from Detailers Domain. He quoted me 1500 for hood, front bumper, and fenders opti-coated. That sounds like a little on the expensive side. Then he told me to call him to discuss, so I'll give an update as to what goes down.

that sounds expensive for a clear bra installation and ridiculous for just an opticoat application (which should go on most of the car). maybe some miscommunication?

Swirls happen. The only way to prevent them is to keep the car in a clean room where nothing touches it. You can only minimize the rate at which you get them and then every now and then buff the paint to remove them.

jarviz 07-10-2012 01:18 PM

Will buffing damage the paint over time?

encity5 07-10-2012 01:26 PM

1500 for opticoat sounds expensive, when i inquired about his new car prep + opticoat. and was quoted ~600. (maybe this is because it was a new car without paint imperfections?)

Generally i believe phil is more expensive, but 1500 does sound ridiculous.

Properly buffing is suppose to help correct paint and polish it. I am pretty sure its not suppose to damage paint. (otherwise it goes against whats its suppose to do.)

I use http://www.detailersdomain.com/Adams...Haze_p_87.html
for minor swirls. theres a lot of other products out there.

Polishing removes a small amount of paint, but it shouldn't be an issue. To remove the swirls though, you'll need to polish.

celica73 07-10-2012 02:34 PM

The quote might include the opticoat as well as paint correction for the swirls.

jarviz 07-10-2012 04:52 PM

So for opti-coat + paint correction, I got quoted 1150 for a partial job, and 1800 for a full job. Is this a good price?

I'm leaning towards a full job, but the price is a little steep. I thought I'd be able to get it for less than a 1000 based on forums. Maybe I was looking at the wrong things.

That is... insanely expensive for Opti-Coat.

That sounds more like...theft.
