5th gear grinding?
I have saw many post about the 5th gear grinding, and I am just gonna ask 1 more time before taking back to dealership.
I have bought the car almost one year ago and only happened to me "twice". 1)I was upshifting from 4th to 5th gear around 40-50 mph while the clutch still press, I heard the short grinding sound. 2) Driving on the freeway between 60-70, down shift from 6th to 5th trying to pass car, and I heard the short grinding sound. No engine/transmission mod besides stg 2 uel E85 intake/exhaust. Currently, car has 32000 miles. So, is it a concern that I need to take it back to dealership, or I ll just change the transmission/LSD fluid? Thanks |

1. Would you say you were shifting properly the times it ground?
2. Can you make it grind without abusing it? Consider the fact that you still have quite a bit of warranted miles. If the syncro is damaged, it will gradually get more obvious. If the syncro is damaged, and if fluid replacement helped, it would only do so temporarily. Fluid replacement is for preventive maintenance. It will never "repair" anything. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You have plenty of time to decide. |
