5th gear grinding?

I have saw many post about the 5th gear grinding, and I am just gonna ask 1 more time before taking back to dealership.

I have bought the car almost one year ago and only happened to me "twice".

1)I was upshifting from 4th to 5th gear around 40-50 mph while the clutch still press, I heard the short grinding sound.

2) Driving on the freeway between 60-70, down shift from 6th to 5th trying to pass car, and I heard the short grinding sound.

No engine/transmission mod besides stg 2 uel E85 intake/exhaust. Currently, car has 32000 miles. So, is it a concern that I need to take it back to dealership, or I ll just change the transmission/LSD fluid?

Thanks

If only twice I would not worry about it at all. If a problem with the tranny it would not only happen twice out of the thousands of time you have to shift. You may not have realized it but I bet your timing was off just a bit on the clutch or it wasn't pressed as far as you thought. It happens. Now if you keep having the issue there may be a problem but with just two occurrences don't sweat it.

1. Would you say you were shifting properly the times it ground?

2. Can you make it grind without abusing it?

Consider the fact that you still have quite a bit of warranted miles. If the syncro is damaged, it will gradually get more obvious.

If the syncro is damaged, and if fluid replacement helped, it would only do so temporarily. Fluid replacement is for preventive maintenance. It will never "repair" anything.

You have plenty of time to decide.

Downshift fast, or downshift hard? I think it may be a matter of timing like Tcoat said. The gearshift is not a light switch. There is a LOT of spinning mass that needs to speed up when downshifting. Be firm but not abusive. Let the syncros do their jobs.

I have been driving MTs for 44 years and will totally admit that I still do a sloppy shift every once in a while and give the gears a little buzz. Never anything huge but enough to wake me up. When you consider how many times you shift over the course of a year anybody is going to slip up. Moment distraction or a bump in the road at the wrong time and you just don't hit things quite right.

Everyone does it. I don't mind so much grinding on the way in as opposed to that "pop" on the way out.

I die a little on the inside when I do that. :(
