Final drive gear pricing

Can somebody explain what's the difference here.

$840: http://counterspacegarage.com/cusco-...-set-4875.html

$238: http://www.weirperformance.com/finaldrivegears.html

The weir is for an ae86 and the cusco is for the brz/gt86/86

Impureclient 10-19-2016 07:57 PM

The Supra one further down is also for the brz/gt86/86.

Cusco, TRD, Weir, they are all made by/for Toyota.

Any fitment issues? Or odd noise while driving

As long as you have a good installer there will be no issues with either. Cusco costs more because Cusco

You mean Cusco costs more cause Toyota with Cusco sticker packaged with it.

My Weir kit was around $600 ish.
- Ordered his rebuild / install kits as well.

Opening up the diff.. shit can happen right? Still cheaper than other alternatives. :)

So they're selling the exact same item for more than 3x the price. I'd love to hear the justification for this.

The Cusco are helical cut like the factory one so runs quiet. I have heard (in the FD threads) that others like Wier have been noisier for some people. Not trying to say go one over another, just do some reading up and see what other peoples experiences have been prior to pulling the trigger.

On decel, mine is quiet. Under throttle, it whines a bit. Skip Weir told me to have it put in by a shop that does diffs on a regular basis. I had mine done by a local shop that specializes in engine swaps and that may be the problem. I have gotten used to the whine as it's not too bad. Mine is a 4.56 btw.

I have heard cusco are made in the same factory as oem items which would explain the price difference. I have bought many cusco items including diff gears and lsd's and I would continue to spend my money with that company. Nothing against weir at all

I can deal with the noise as long everything was done properly and works fine
