Tokyota Gauteng Ring Road Challenge 12 Nov 2016
|
Tokyota Crew is trying something a little different this November…
Encircling Jo’burg like a donut is the Ring Road – the N1, N3 and N12 highways – which makes for the perfect bypass around the hustle and bustle of the City Centre, Sandton ***, Industria and Bruma. We all use it to get past the traffic but when last did you go for a proper blast around the Ring Road? On 12 November, your task is to loop Jo’burg not in the quickest time but as close to the time set by two Tokyota Crew members – Ingo Behrendt and John Baldwin – in their Supras. You won’t know the time they set. The only clue you have is that Ingo and John’s time was set by driving within a maximum of 10% of the speed limit of 120km/h – careful, that could be 10% above or below it. All entrants will begin their Ring Road journey from the famous Casbah Roadhouse on Voortrekker Road in Alberton. From 18h30, chill out with the other drivers and have a bite before you set off because your restaurant slip is your entrance ticket. At 20h00, Ingo and John will wave their green flag and cars will depart from the Roadhouse one minute apart. From there, it’s up to you. Make it round the Ring Road and back to the Roadhouse as best you can! Remember, no cheating – the odometer reading of each entrant’s car will be noted when they leave. For those who might want to take a shortcut, we might summon the Terrific Toyota Gods to drop a Quantum or two onto your car… Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. But we’ve got something a little more special: bring a passenger with a camera because the driver with the most creative photograph of any landmark along the route will be awarded a bonus prize! Post your photos to Instagram using the hashtag #TokyotaRRChallenge. The Tokyota Ring Road Challenge – bring your car, bring your best driving skills!
