A can or two of black plasti-dip isn't too expensive. ;)

I do wonder what Subaru would do if someone makes a big enough stink about this since it does clearly say they are black many places on their website.

Drambeenie 01-05-2017 06:29 PM

Congrats on the car!

I'll be getting my rims powder coated satin black. It's not that expensive to do if you're really not happy with them being grey.

BboyRuda 01-05-2017 06:37 PM

I wonder if the Series.Yellow will be gunmetal too. Lol

this is the question.... really it should be black. I mean.... yeah. It should be black. This would now make the series yellow actually a particularly cool purchase if they were the only ones that came black.

The gunmetal looks better than the black for the wheels anyway.

Congrats! I much prefer the gunmetal rims. I guess California will get the first cars then hopefully my sons car will be dropped off in Brunswick GA!

ryoma 01-05-2017 07:13 PM

I love how the brakes fill up that wheel... damn

Read you contract closely. I bet there is a "some items may be different from described" clause or something similar there someplace. That is the risk that is taken when ordering something before anybody has had one delivered. Who knows though maybe the rest will have black and that one was just a screw up on the line. Believe me it happens more than you would want to know.

They would say "OK don't take the car then we will sell it to somebody else". You can bet that they have an adequate legal department to deal with such things.

To me they look the same shade of gray as the ones shown in the R&T First Drive back in November. :iono:

I ordered white with PP and was happy to see black wheels come in the package. But after seeing the DGM with the gunmetal wheels, it matches much better. Meh, I didnt get the PP for the wheels alone. Im still stoked!

If I'm honest, I'm not even that big a fan of the rim design on the PP

I'd like them a lot more if they were 17x8.

They are. The R&T test drive was done in Japan with a JDM (the real meaning) car that was always said to have the gunmetal wheels.

I have to agree. I liked them at first but the more pics I see the less I like them. They are nice for showing off those calipers though.

Yep. They picked the best angles to show them off in pictures

funwheeldrive 01-06-2017 12:30 AM

OK, that gunmetal color is awesome. I'm sooo glad they are not black.

Now, who wants to sell me their wheels?

The gunmetal on the WRB looks fantastic. Had I known the wheels were gunmetal instead of black I would have gotten the WRB instead of the CWP but ohhh well, plastidip is cheap. I'll drive on the gunmetal for a couple of months to see if it grows on me

Just got a text from my salesman that the dealer has ordered my Yellow and it will be included in their February allocation! I will go speak with him in person after work to get more details. :happyanim:

Salesman won't have a clue and will just say whatever is on the data sheet (which says black).

No, but assuming black. All the pictures of it have they have been black, they were black on the pre-production car. But who knows. I'll try to see if somehow I can get someone from the docks to snap a picture once they hit the shore.

Correct, Napleton Subaru of Rockford. He did say he was trying to get a second one because someone else had interest, but they didn't end up pulling the trigger, so I'm not sure what became of that. I'll ask him this afternoon.

I gave a $500 deposit at Gary Lang Subaru in McHenry about a month ago. Hopefully they'll get one as well

Sportsguy83 01-06-2017 01:37 PM

The wheels look way better in gunmetal. I'd be ecstatic if I were to get that surprise

Wow, that looks gorgeous, thanks for the picture! I am much happier with the gunmetal wheels on the DGM car. Hurghhh, still waiting to pull the trigger on mine. Definitely going to go with the PP.

Dang..

To be honest I still really hope my CWP has the black wheels even though there was that picture earlier of a CWP with the gunmetal color.

Also a very good illustration of the "black abyss" wheel well look black wheels can create that I mentioned earlier

Well boys, my PP has arrived! I'm about to go pick it up! I'll take pictures. The salesman showed me a pic and yeah, the wheels actually looked Gunmetal but they still had the shipping covers on and it could have been a lighting thing. I'll find out for sure in a bit!

I am so jealous. This makes me even more impatient to get mine in a couple weeks

reebis 01-07-2017 11:27 AM

Mine arrived yesterday as well. Going to the dealer today to finalize paperwork, but it will be a few days until everything is in order and I can go pick it up. I'll grab a few pics though.

BboyRuda 01-07-2017 11:47 AM

Damn I'm jealous of all of you who are getting it this early.

I guess the Yellows are being released along with the rest of the PPs. Hopefully mine arrives in a couple weeks.

So, looking at the locations it would appear that there has been at least one shipment received on each coast by now. Once you guys get them let's take a look at the build dates and sequential build number. They may have given the PPs a different build number series and that would let us know roughly how many they have done so far. I don't think they will have their own numbers since it is an option package not a special edition but you never know. Of course if just a general build number then we won't have a clue. The build date will be on a black sticker in the driver's door and the sequence number is the last set of digits in the VIN. None of this really means much but I am curious and I am sure others would be as well.

The lighting could be altering its true colors. But it does seem like a split between black and gumetal. lol

Barefootdan 01-07-2017 07:19 PM

@spike021 I like that color! Whether it's the lighting or not, I'd be pleased if it looked like that

Agreed, that's definitely more in line with what I was expecting. Not like total black-out color but not non-black/gray either.
