2017 toyota 86 AT
 

Hey guys im new here, i've wanting a 86 for some months now, currently a 2015 hyundai elantra limited owner, i've decided to go next week to the dealer and get some numbers for a trade in 2017 86 AT . Yea not manual sorry, not sorry. Anyways do you guys think modding/tuning the new 2017 will be as expandable as the frs? FI,exhaust systems,headers, and most importantly stage 2 tunes with e85? I saw RB already has a v3 widebody out for sell. Any thoughts? Thanks

New cars are nice! I bought my FR-S new in 2012. So, if you got means, do it!

Otherwise, I would look at a low milage 13 or 14. Use the money you save for mods. They add up really fast. (Needs another "really" in the last sentence)

These are great cars! My s2000 was bleeding me dry. the FRS is, IMO, "affordable" in comparison to mod.

In no way does this make it cheap. The parts you mentioned cost, ballpark figure, $15,000. (New parts) Good luck, and welcome.

Or... buy a modded turbo RB FR-S. There are a few members with theirs for sale. Some are about the same price as a new stock car..... something to consider. When I bought mine, there weren't any used ones....

Why no MT? You don't get the new engine (slight) mods in the AT, which the 18 may get.

Not everyone wants to drive stick.

Honestly you should try to find a 16 for WAY cheaper deals since the 16 & 17 is the really the same (except for the new steering wheel and some nice interior touches)

the manual mode on the auto is pretty fun. =D

I own a 15 FRS I absolutely love it took it from LA to SF road trip got 35.2 MPG that's even with the paddle shifters used with sport mode on.

hey darth, when you use the paddle shifters do you release the gas ,then shift up or down? because when im on M mode i usually let go of the gas and then shift.is it the same as the paddle shifters? thanks

that just isn't true. Greddy even mentioned only some of what they sell will fit the 17's. Other companies will probably say the same thing. Greddy mentioned there are a couple of slight changes that might cause problems with some parts.

You shouldn't need to release the gas to shift since this is not DSG with two driveshafts where it can guess the next gear wrong.

No, you don't release gas. Just tap the paddle (or sequential shifter) and continue. The shift is very quick and rev matching works great. You can even do double tap to double down shift when necessary.
