The Jetsons and our current reality

Just something interesting to reflect on. When I think in future, I donīt know why it comes to my mind The Jetsons. Taking into consideration, this was only an animated sitcom from 1962, but it blows my mind thinking that every time we get closer to that reality.

Thanks to the Internet, we can do many things with just a click of a button. For example, private cars now come with integrated Internet systems, this has made the driving experience more automatized.

There are some transport companies that use a specific technology on they cars to calculate in seconds the travel time to airports, so the passenger can be sure that he is not going to miss his flight.

Los Angeles is one of those cities that are improving their transportation system to take a shuttle to lax in record time. This is not a specific fact of USA cities. If we take a look at China, we will find out that their population issue has forced them to change its transportation system to the maximum level.

What do you think? would you leave your life in hands of an integrated operating system in your car?:party0030:

The day is coming when leaving your life in the hands of you car will not be an option. I will not probably live long enough to see it but rest assured many of you will.

Totally!! this is a big issue considering that every day we build machines that think for us, even it makes me feel chills.

That is where people get confused. The machines don't "think" in any way shape or form. They calculate at best and are totally unable to deal with anything other than the specific data for which they were designed.
This is both the benefit and the drawback for self driving vehicles. If they determine that X is the situation and Y is the proper action then they will always perform Y. People may see X and should do Y but instead decide that B is better and this makes them unpredictable which could be a problem.
On the negative side if the situation is X but the vehicle can only deal with A through W then it can take no action at all in which case even the unpredictable human's action may have been better.

All in all people need to understand that no matter how many tasks a machine can be programed for it is not able to "think" and is a slave to the data.

Yo OP did you ever thing what was on the bottom of the Jetsons? Like what is ground level? Is it poor people? Is it zombies? Or was it the Flinstones because remember they've had several cross episodes. IDK I used to think about all of that when I was kid like hardcore lol. It would bug the fuck out of me.

This made me think, because I was a Jetsons fan and I clearly remembered seeing the ground a couple of times in the show. One had a bird walking on the ground complaining because there were too many vehicles in the air.

And one that showed that the Grand Central Spaceation was also at ground level.

So basically ground level was nothing to write home about, but it wasn't Zombies either.

There were other episodes where they went to the Moon and a few other places that showed ground level, but I didn't count those.

I think it's all going to implode as all nations are starting to look inwards leading to isolationism. Knowledge won't be shared between countries/businesses strangling innovation leading to the Mustang becoming the best selling sports car!!!
