First stud broken
 

Hey guys, I just broke my first stud yesterday and I was wondering what would the budget friendly approach be? My lack of experience tells me to just get another oem stud and another oem lug nut, install them and call it a day, but I hear oem stud is garbage so I'd like to hear more opinion.
I also don't have access to a press so suggestions on how to install would be great. I'm still on stock wheels too, if you guys needed to know.

Yes I've read that diy but it doesn't go much into detail how to do it without a press. And I don't really wanna hammer the old studs out in risk of damaging the hubs.

I wouldn't worry to much about damaging the hub, the stud is only pressed in on the last 1/4" once you get past that you can push it out by hand.

I messed the threads up on two of my studs and replaced them using a hammer to pull them out and a spare lug and washers to pull them back through.

As long as you take some time and are careful there is no problem with not having a press.

The idea with the washers make a spacer so that you can use the lug nut to pull the stud into place.

So enough washers to stack about 1.5" high

If I got a pack of 5 ARP short studs that are the same length as oem, there wouldn't be a problem just replacing the broken stud with an ARP and leaving the other 4 studs oem right?

On a racecar yes, on your street car you will be fine. Its the same as using a different lugnuts for keys; shouldnt affect wheel balance

Two tips (from somebody who has had a few oem studs snap)

1: Never let a shop/dealership/etc change wheels. Every single time I removed wheels after somebody else put them on, at least one was ruined. It took me a few times to catch on to the problem, but now I just flat out refuse to let anybody else but me touch them.
2: ALWAYS use a torque wrench and be gentle
3: You'll have a bit better luck with aftermarket lugs (i haven't had any issues since switching to Gorillas)

I know. The first was during a dealer-covered first service after buying it new. I didn't know about the issue with the studs, so I didn't have any reason to object to a tire rotation. It was the next time I touched the wheels that I had a stud issue. Didn't know it was common (yet - it was still 2013).

After getting two replaced, I vowed never to let anybody touch them again, but one other time, I got a nail in the tire two blocks from a discount tire. They swapped it out - I didn't put the spare on since I was so close to the place.

They also ruined a stud. I replaced that one myself, and since have not let anybody touch them for the past two years...

I know better, and have for years now... but occasionally shit happens!
