Best tires for pacific north west
 

I enjoy the stock primacys grip levels, dont want crazy grip. I need 245/40. 17

Here in vancouver we dont get much snow, and as my job is outdoors we dont work in the snow. So i wont need to drive in it. Rarely drops below zero during the daytime. So im wondering what people think is a good tire for this weather.

Primacys are to expensive at 200$ a tire. Looking for 100-150$ tire. Or name some good ones disregarding price as i know all the wreckers quite wel around here and might be able to get a good used set.

Primarily id like as good of grip in the rain as posisible, and if possible counteractively being not so grippy in dry condition. able to withstand mild 4 season weather.


I may just buy winters and summers if there is no such thing as decent all weather/season tires.

Have you looked at Continental DWS or DW?

Loads of good all seasons out there. Even with the lack of snow and relatively warm temps an all season is a way better bet for you. A full on winter tire is a waste of money really since there is no great advantage to them until you are below 7 degrees.

Which is it? :)
Though of course you can always purposedly select such wider tire of bad as possible type + overpump it, to lessen grip to Primacies level. Doesn't sound to me as right thing to do though. Many tires are usually of more grippier rubber compound then Primacies are, and often you can get more grip even if you put them narrower then Primacies, eg. 205/50.

Conti DWS are a popular choice around here.

In your desired sizes, they come in 7 dollars (USD) less than your max specified price range.

Putting the 245/40s on 17x8.25 +35. Would buy primacies again but 200+$ each is too much for them and to my knowledge/looking on willtheyfit.com. The 245/40 fits same as the stock 215/45 fits on the 17x7

So what size tire to run on 17x8.25 then!?!?! Willtheyfit says 245 40 is closest to stock. Anything else. 235/245 with 45 is way out of wack

I run 245/40 17 Hankook ventus evoII tires. They have good grip for spirited driving but they're not pilot super sports or anything. And they're super cheap. Got a set of 4 from tire rack shipped for like$450.

I picked up some 245 40 17 michelin pilot sport as3's. Im blown away by the grip in the rain

I was able to get a set of 225/45 pilot sport AS3+ tires for $600 installed from Costco and I agree that their grip in the rain is amazing. The dry grip from these tires is awesome as well. I have noticed the steering is not quite as sharp but I'm sure that is due to the increase in sidewall height on stock rims.

225/45 is a better fit on an 8.25" wheel. It's not "way out of wack" at all either.
